Synopsis

You are in the magical land of Tezrel. Your mission is to find the Magic Ring of Vorda.

Notes

The earliest versions of this game were for 16K VIC-20 and Commodore 64, published by HFS Software (later known as Wordlight Ltd), dating from at least as early as 1983 (the game is advertised on p.10 of Computer Choice from December 1983)

Wordlight also later sold a BBC version (inlays for this are dated 1984).

The Omen Software branded releases seem to be from 1984. Omen was another trading name for Wordlight.

Huw Ford (of HFS) was the author of the original Commodore versions. The BBC version of the game is credited to Gavin J. Cradle. The Dragon 32 version is credited to Anthony Mansell.

You are in a dessert? Not a good start...

Actually the game is won when you leave the world of Tezrel through a wardrobe. Now where did I hear that one before? :) - Its even got a "red fish", not a "red herring", although it seems it has the same function in this game. :)

The VIC-20 version is not as good as the C64 version. The map is simplified (there are no sub-areas, apart from the canyon), you start in a random location, and all of the items are randomly distributed around the map (except for the ring itself and the keys of Zarbith). Items distributed randomly makes the game a real pain to complete, and it makes the sub-quests pointless. The dwarf is also bugged. If he steals your sword, all of the swords you see will be illusions. However, if you then try to kill the dwarf, the sword re-appears. You can then take the sword and kill him! Oh, and you can use the wand, too, but if you do and lose the fight (which also seems a bit random) the wand disappears forever and you will have to reload (so always attack the "monsters" by typing use sword).
