Introduction =============================================================================== Published in 1989 by Zenobi Software, Behind Closed Doors 3 is the third in a series of four extremely short interactive fiction adventures. The game once again takes place entirely in Balrog's wooden hut at the bottom of his garden, where a swarm of ants have smeared superglue over his toilet seat. Balrog sits down and becomes stuck on the seat, and has only 100 moves to escape from the hut before being attacked by the Rattigator beast. The game is longer and more challenging than the previous two games. One frustrating point is that you have to wait 39 moves for an essential cat which may or not appear. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts in the small hut. Enter any command (such as LOOK for example) 39 times and a cat will enter the hut. If the cat doesn't enter the hut, QUIT the game and start again. After the cat has made the puddle and exited the hut, EXAMINE HUT to see three walls and a door. EXAMINE DOOR to see a shelf. EXAMINE SHELF to see a hammer. READ GAZZETTE to see a crossword. EXAMINE CROSSWORD to see an unsolved clue. EXAMINE CLUE. Answer AUNT to solve the crossword. UNFOLD GAZZETTE. ROLL GAZZETTE. USE GAZZETTE to knock the hammer down from the shelf. GET HAMMER. EXAMINE RIGHT WALL to see a nail. PULL NAIL out of the wall. LOOK UP to see a bird looking through the opening in the roof. THROW NAIL. When asked at what, enter AT BIRD to make the bird drop a match. GET MATCH. DRAW CROSS on the side of the toilet bowl. FART to fill the toilet bowl with green gas. HIT CROSS three times with the hammer and gas will start to seep out of the crack in the toilet bowl. LIGHT MATCH. LIGHT GAS to stand up. EXAMINE CISTERN to see dust. SEARCH DUST to get a rusty screwdriver. DIP SCREWDRIVER in the puddle left behind by the cat to remove the rust. EXAMINE DOOR to see brass hinges. EXAMINE HINGES to see that each hinge is held in place by screws. REMOVE BOOTS and Balrog will be able to move. UNSCREW SCREWS and the screwdriver will be stolen by a cockroach. LOOK 10 times and a mouse will return the screwdriver to Balrog. PULL SHIRT twice and Balrog will pull his nightshirt over the toilet seat. UNSCREW SCREWS to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== FELT-TIP PEN Available at the start of the game. It is used to draw a cross on the toilet bowl. GOBLIN GAZZETTE Available at the start of the game. It is examined to see a crossword, with a remaining clue which can be solved with the word AUNT. It is unfolded, rolled and used to knock the hammer down from the shelf. LIT MATCH Made by lighting the unused match. It is used to light the gas in the toilet bowl. RUSTY NAIL Found by examining the right wall and pulling the nail. After looking up at the opening in the roof, the rusty nail is thrown at the bird to make it drop the match. RUSTY SCREWDRIVER Found by searching the dust on top of the cistern. It is dipped in the puddle left behind by the cat to get the yellow screwdriver. SMALL HAMMER After the shelf has been examined, the Goblin Gazzette is unfolded, rolled and used to knock the hammer down from the shelf. SQUARE OF PAPER Found on the floor after pulling the rusty nail from the right wall. A review and a quiz can be read on the paper. It is not used. UNUSED MATCH Found by throwing the rusty nail at the bird. It is lit to make the lit match. YELLOW SCREWDRIVER Found by dipping the rusty screwdriver in the puddle left behind by the cat.
