Village of Secrets
Official Solution by the Author

****** Village of Secrets CHEAT SHEET ******

There are seven treasures to collect: a silver serinette, a wax statue, an emerald ring, an angora
sweater, a Ming vase, a crystal ball and a gold bracelet. These treasures, once found, should be
deposited in the sitting room of the house (a clue to this is given).

To collect the treasures various puzzles must be completed. The main, large problems - usually
ending in the discovery of a treasure - are divided up into small sub-puzzles which must be solved
first.

A sketch map of the village and its environs is given. This does not bear very much relation to a
real village, but throughout I have paid more attention to the creation of an enjoyable, challenging
and varied game. Less emphasis has been placed on creating a totally realistic environment: a game
featuring row upon row of houses and shops would be rather dull, after all!

FULL SOLUTION

First, get the wooden rod, and throw it at the horse chestnut tree. Take the conker to the
schoolboy, in return being given the keys. These should be used to unlock the house, the churchyard
grating and the inn. Get the pepper and the aspririn from the house.

Go north to the church and pray at the east end. When the vicar leaves, take the collection box and
shake it. Pick up the coin and drop the box.

Explore the inn, and read the Gazette. Wake the drunken man (the easiest way is to kick him!) and
give him the aspirin. Take the pepper to the station waiting room, and throw it at the tramp. Get
the red coat from the cloakroom (east) and then go north to get the sandwich in the station buffet.
Do not leave the buffet, but say "Plunk" to be transported back to the house.

Go to the shop and throw the sandwich at the man-eating plant. Move into the next room, take the
bottle, and the shopkeeper will appear and take your money. Now go back to the garden of your house
(through the kitchen) and empty the bottle over the weeds. Pick up the trowel in the garden shed.

Walk back to the pond and kiss the frog to get the *silver serinette* . Fill the bottle here, take
it back to the sitting room of your house and use it to put the fire out. Drop the bottle. Now go
upstairs and through the trapdoor in the bedroom: get the *wax statue* and jump down, to avoid
falling through the rotting laths. Drop the statue in the sitting room.

Go back to the station and type 'wait' whilst on the platform for the train to go by.
Cross the rails to the platelayer's hut, unlock the door and take the lamp. Move back to the
village green and shout "Tibbles" for the Cheshire Cat to appear.

Walk into the school kitchens, get the fish and say Plunk. Walk straight east - you haven't got
many moves - to the tree and wave the fish. When the cat jumps down, feed it to get rid of the fish.
Climb the tree to get the *emerald ring* from the magpie's nest, and then take the ring to the
sitting room.

Return to the green, get the cat and switch on the lamp. Go down into the cellar of the inn and drop
the cat, in order to get the mouse. Retrieve cat and take to Rose Cottage, throwing the rod to make
the dog let you past. Knock on the door.

Once in the old lady's house, explore it, and take the whistle. Play the serinette (an
instrument for teaching caged birds to sing) to the canary. The old lady will show you out. Shout
"Maud" and she will come out and give you the *angora sweater* she has knitted you.

Outside, blow the whistle to get past the dog. Deposit the sweater in the sitting room. Now, return
to the station and cross back over the rails. Go north into the bull's field and wave the red
coat. Walk east into the area of the archaelogist's dig. Enter the gypsy's caravan and
drop the mouse. Take the *crystal ball.* Rub the ball inside the caravan.

Dig (with the trowel) in the south end of the archaelogists field. Take the clay pipe outside the
field, past the sign, so that the waiting archaelogist takes it. Now dig at the north end to uncover
the *Ming vase* . Take this west and say Plunk to return to the house, where you should drop the
vase and the crystal ball.

Now go up the hill to the churchyard. Go down the grating to the bottom of the well. Follow
carefully the directions N,W,N,E,S and D to take you through the maze of crypts and into the cavern.
Say "Eureka" to be transported to the stone chamber, where the *gold bracelet* is found.
To leave the chamber once again use "Plunk".

Drop the bracelet in the sitting room. All the treasures should now be there bar one - the silver
serinette, which the old lady took. To retrieve this, write out the six digit number
"365142" found in the game. Beneath it write the corresponding letters given at various
times (Y3, U6, R5 etc.) to get the word "Yurgle". Say this word to retrieve the serinette,
and then drop it in the sitting room to complete the collection.

Finally, now you have all found all the treasures, return to the church and go up the steps into the
belfry, taking a metallic object (eg. the whistle). Throw this at the bell to complete the game.
