HINTS AND TAKEABLE ITEMS FOR REALM OF DARKNESS – ATARI ST VERSION
First and fore most don’t do what I did and forget to carry the magic chest around with you. I
relied on reclaiming items from the Secret Room while holding the card; the thief always steals any
dropped items and leaves them here. It was only after completing the game and looking at Richard
Bos’s and Terri’s solutions that I realised I had made life more difficult for myself even
though I still solved it. There are also differences between the Atari ST version that I played and
the Spectrum version that they used. I note for instance that the gold nugget in the ST version is
a gold bar in the Spectrum version and Terri makes no mention of the topaz underneath the large
mound of earth. There are bound to be other differences too.
The object of the game is to retrieve the King’s five treasures and nine gems for yourself and
store them in the castle. Some objects have multiple uses.
The card enables you to enter the secret room to the north of the Treasury and reclaim items stolen
by the thief. You receive it from the Poacher after you have freed him from the animal trap. You
must be wearing the bracelet to do this as it increases your strength. You also need to wear the
bracelet to move the large boulder in the Vast Plant Chamber to the east of the castle. Make sure
you are carrying the hammer when you enter here as you need it to break the vase in the
gamekeeper’s cottage. The password to the cottage is given to you by the poacher when you free
him from his trap.
