This is a minimal solution. You'll need to EXAMINE lots of things for this solution to make
sense. Also make sure to TALK to all non-player characters.
There are ten events. In order to win an event, you need to, er, bend the rules a little by having,
wearing or using equipment that will give you an advantage. Firstly, talk to your coach for a hint
on each event. His initial advice is pretty useless:
TALK COACH (before competing in an event)
1 (100 metres): Run fast
2 (long jump): Jump far
3 (shotput): Throw far
4 (high jump): Jump high
5 (400 metres): Run fast
6 (hurdles): Run and jump
7 (discus): Throw far
8 (pole vault): Vault high
9 (javelin): Throw far
10 (1500 metres): Run fast
Once you've attempted and failed an event, it becomes more useful:
TALK COACH (after competing and failing in an event)
1 (100 metres): Wear faster shoes
2 (long jump): Have wind with you
3 (shotput): Throw lighter shot
4 (high jump): Wear bouncier shoes
5 (400 metres): Faster shoes, lighter clothes
6 (hurdles): Bouncier shoes, crowd support
7 (discus): Need better balance
8 (pole vault): Bouncier shoes, magic dust
9 (javelin): Choose aerodynamic javelin
10 (1500 metres): Fast, light, aerodynamic
This is probably a bit cryptic, but this is what it means:
TALK COACH (what does it mean?)
1 (100 metres): Wear running shoes found at food van
2 (long jump): Put log on fire to make it hotter so that official turns up fan
3 (shotput): Use rubber ball from playground instead of shotput
4 (high jump): Attach mattress springs from dump to your running shoes
5 (400 metres): Wear running shoes and running vest from changing rooms
6 (hurdles): Wear springy shoes (as per 4) and give apple from path to crowd
7 (discus): Read book in strange area to improve your knowledge of balance
8 (pole vault): Wear springy shoes (as per 4) and give popcorn to wizard
9 (javelin): Sharpen javelin with sharpener at dump to improve its aerodynamics
10 (1500 metres): Wear shoes & vest (as per 5) & stretchy hat from change rooms
Once you think you have the right equipment, talk to the official for the event. He will
automatically run the event and give you the result. If you lose, he'll shake his head. If you
win, he presents you with a medal. Once you have all ten medals, take them to your cave. You score 1
point for each medal returned. As you don't score these points until the last move, the
solution keeps a tally of your medals as you earn them. This is shown as +A=B, where A is medal won
and B is cumulative medals won.
