Day of the Sleigh (day-of-the-sleigh-wt.txt)

Walkthrough for Day of the Sleigh, by Dee Cooke

by Andrew Schultz, for solutionarchive.com

A >> means a command is optional but helps make sense of future comments.

Key commands for Day of the Sleigh include LOOK UNDER, X (LOOK AT) and LOOK INSIDE. It's a
present hunt, and it's not huge, so this feels appropriate and effective! Also, L UNDER
doesn't work, but LOOK UNDER does.

Some of Day of the Sleigh is randomized. Santa asks for one of four presents, and depending on which
he requests, you may or may not be able to find them right away. Every present is available on any
one run. But their windows of availability are different. So you need to be aware of that. This
walkthrough attempts to account from this.

At some times using the up-arrow helps save keystrokes. Or you can use the mouse to click.

>LOOK UNDER TABLE

>GET CUE

>>X SHELF

You can't see up there!

>CLIMB TABLE
>X SHELF
>CLIMB TABLE

(DOWN doesn't quite work. But you can just use the up-arrow.)

If you hadn't seen what's on the shelf, you'll have no in-game reason to push the
table.

>PUSH TABLE
>CLIMB TABLE

That down-arrow again!

>GET CANE
>CLIMB TABLE

>E

>>X POOL

>POKE POOL WITH CUE

Oh, look, it's Deirdre!

>TALK DEIRDRE

A silver key!

>W
>UNLOCK DOOR
>OPEN DOOR
>S

>TALK SANTA
>1

>TALK SANTA

Depending on which gift you get, this may be necessary. You need the item below for the vase, for
instance. Also, if you want to get all four items, you may want to look at the pool table again
right away.

>X SLEIGH
>X TOOLS

>GET SET

Whew! We don't have to sort out which tool does what.

>LOOK INSIDE TROUGH
>GET CHOCOLATES

Note that, if you want a quick way out, you can just GIVE CHOCOLATES to Santa, then OPEN CURTAINS,
BREAK WINDOW and PULL LEVER.

>N

>X TABLE

>GET COVER

(In the "really unfair bug to report" department, you can CLIMB TABLE even though the
cover is off as of January '23. Also, when you stand down, the game says you push the table
away. These are the sorts of small bugs that pop up in good games such as this: there's enough
realism, you want even even more, forgetting you've got a game like this for free.)

>X TABLE
>X POCKETS
>LOOK INSIDE POCKETS

(The below is tricky. You may not be able to find the ball in some cases.)

>E
>X POOL

Now this is necessary if Santa wanted you to get the rubber ball, but otherwise, you may need to
come back later to take the ball.

>TALK TO DEIRDRE

>GET BALL
>W

>S

>GIVE (TOY)
>1

Now, if you just want to win the game...

>OPEN CURTAINS
>BREAK WINDOWS
>PULL LEVER
>
>N
>GET BOX
>1

>N

>CUT BOLT

If you give the candy cane to the worker right away before talking to the worker, the worker
doesn't bring the window opener out, and you can't talk to them once they're asleep.
So you need a new way through.

>>LOOK BEHIND PICTURE

>PULL PICTURE

>>LOOK BEHIND PICTURE

>PULL PICTURE

>GET VASE

>TALK TO WORKER

You can't get the window opener yet. You don't need it to win, but you need it for all the
accomplishments.

>GIVE CANDY CANE

>GET OPENER

>E
>S

>GIVE (PRESENT)
>1

You could type "TO SANTA" -- but why not save keystrokes?

>OPEN CURTAINS

Now you can type...

>BREAK WINDOW

>OPEN WINDOWS

>TALK TO SANTA
>PULL LEVER

>N

Now if you didn't get the ball ...

>E
>GET BALL
>W

You may wish to save here to see all the presents. However, a note: if you want to clear all the
accomplishments, you'll have to win the game and try again. I found that saving and LOADing
doesn't allow you to ring them up in order. Note the second time through is easier. Since you
know where all the presents are, you can just get what Santa needs, then BREAK WINDOW once
you've examined the tools.

>OPEN BOX

>1/2/3

>U

If you go through and get all the achievements, the game tells you you're the best adventurer!
If this isn't enough for you, remember, the real present is being able to see all of a really
nice game the author wrote for free! (The moralizing is all mine and not the author's.)

Some words on accomplishments. First, here they are:

Vinyl Junkie (box 1)
Blast It! (box 2)
Who's There? (box 3)
Balls to the Wall (find rubber ball in the ball pit)
Chocoholic (find chocolates)
Choo Choo! (find toy train)
Granny Would Love It (find vase)
Sweet Talking (give candy cane to worker)
Stress Relief (BREAK WINDOW)
Fuel for the Journey (give vegetables to reindeer)

Note that you can't just find an item. You need to TAKE it to get the accomplishment.
