Walkthrough for Jimmy's Christmas Foul by Kieron Scott NOTE: Z does not wait in this game explicitly, though it can make the initial turn counter increase. Also, WAIT doesn't wait a turn. It waits for Santa to come and is a way to say "I think I set my trap! Let's see what happens." The downside is that you have to LOAD and hit a lot of keys--UNDO doesn't work. Note that this got last place in the Adventuron 2020 Christmas Jam, but ... it's one of the strongest last-place games I've played in a jam and almost certainly the top one for a jam of more than ten entries! It's got a sense of humor, and given the author's time constraints (they took ~10 hours,) I'm impressed. >SET ALARM (You lose the game if you just sit around. You fall asleep and miss Santa.) >Z >Z >Z >Z >Z (The time waiting seems fixed. But all you have to do is SET ALARM.) Okay, now the adventure begins! Note that WAIT at any time (save first) gives you the status of the trap you set. So it acts as a quasi-hint, if you're willing to LOAD the game back up. "You wait for Santa but he is able to find the tree and leaves without giving you a present." >S You can't do anything in the bathroom to the south yet. You are not tall enough to open the cabinet. Your plan is as follows: put a trap on the stairs, put the tree on the landing, and hide in your bedroom. Then capture Santa. >D >D >ENTER >GET BALL >EXIT >S >GET TREE Jimmy's pretty strong, for a kid. >N >SW >GET CHAIR Really strong! But seriously, this means less puttering around. >NE >U >DROP BALL >U >DROP TREE Note that the game says, hey, you've got things set. This occurs whichever way you drop the ball and tree. >S >DROP CHAIR >OPEN CABINET >GET FLOSS If you wait on the landing or stairs, Santa will see you and sneak out. You could also hide under the stairs or in your bedroom or the dining room. You just can't be in Santa's path. >WAIT Oops! Santa fell down the stairs! >N >S >D >D There doesn't seem to be a time limit when it comes to doing what you need to, here. >X SANTA will tell you the verb to use. >TIE SANTA Back in your bedroom! >OPEN PRESENT And Jimmy wins! But society and common decency lose, alas. A fun game.
