Walkthrough by Feathery Christmas by OK Feather

Submitted to solutionarchive.com on 1/15/2023 by Andrew Schultz

This game has both hard and easy settings, so I'd like to show the way through both.
>>'s mean optional commands for the sake of a quick walkthrough, but they bring
explanation to what you're doing.

There's nothing practical to do in the cellar, but you can examine what you want.

>>get map

>>x map

Okay, I have a map too, but the in-game one is nice. Also note if you don't take the map, the
game does so implicitly.

>u

There's no way back, but you don't need to go back.

>get book

>>x book

>w

>>x bin

Nothing in there yet.

>in

>exit

>>x bin

>get bread

>give bread

EASY MODE

On easy mode, we have a logic puzzle. The game quite nicely explains what you did wrong if you give
a wrong answer, but let's work through the logic.

1 Andrew: Charlie got bread
2 Barbara: Darla and I got bread
3 Charlie: I didn't get any bread
4 Darla: Eric didn't get any bread
5 Eric: both Andrew and Darla got bread

We can plug and chug e.g. if Andrew got no bread, Charlie, Darla and Eric are liars, then go to
Barbara, etc.

But using logic, we see exactly one of Charlie and Darla must be lying, and one of Charlie and
Andrew must be lying. If Darla and Andrew are both telling the truth, though, Barbara and Eric are,
too. So Charlie must be telling the truth.

HARD MODE

On hard mode, we have a logic/ranking puzzle.

1 Taylor: Merle ate least, or only 1 pigeon ate less than him

  1 2 3 4 5
T . . . . .
L . . . . .
A . . . . .
C . . . . .
M . . x x x

2 Larry: only one pigeon who ate as much bread as me. It is not Andrew.

  1 2 3 4 5
T . . . x .
L x x x + x
A . . . x x
C . . . x .
M . . x x x

Andrew: there is only one pigeon who ate the most bread, but sadly it's not me (this clue is
useless)

Charlie: I am the only one who ate the least bread

  1 2 3 4 5
T x . . x .
L x x x + x
A x . . x x
C + x x x x
M x . x x x

Merle: Each of the five of us ate bread (this seems useless, because it's possible they could
eat 0/1/2/3/4 and not 1/2/3/4/5 and the same logic would still apply.)

Note then that Merle is 2, Andrew is 3, and Taylor is 5.

So Taylor ate the most bread.

Oh, if you give up and come back later,

>>TRY AGAIN

Now the path to the church has had snow removed.

>s

>s

You couldn't go south at the start of the game. Now you can, but you'll need a ticket.

>w

>>talk owner

You need a book. What can you trade?

>give book

>e

>talk man

Now you have a ticket!

>s

You can guess the number if you already know it. But let's go through the steps.

>>talk tourist

>>translate

>>x book

Hmm, that number is important.

EASY MODE

Now here the gusts of wind push you into a house. You can use them to go faster. The rules are
simple. You can go north, south or east. What's the quickest way through?

>n

You've hit the first gust.

>s
>e

That hits the third gust. But do you go north or south? The south gust pushes you east three
squares, but the north only pushes two.

>s

HARD MODE

Okay, so you need to go as slowly as possible. You may note 1) south takes longer to get to and 2)
in easy mode, north was the fast way, so south seems right, right? But going south means you're
forced into gust #3 quicker.

>N

Note that you aren't forced to make sensible moves, even though you can't backtrack.
So...

>s
>s
>e
>n

Again you have a choice here. The north way is longer to get to, but it forces you to the end.

>s

Again, dawdle as much as you can.

>n

>s

You win!
