Crystal Chalice of Quorom, The (Crystal_Chalice_of_Quorom.txt)

THE CRYSTAL CHALICE OF QUOROM (Dungeon Software, 1983)
by Mike Meineck

Based on a walkthrough I devised myself, mostly working out the puzzles by playing
the game, but also getting some useful hints from the unprotected BASIC listing.

General observations of this game:-
The first five letters of each verb/noun are significant. "INVEN" is the shortest way to
get an inventory.
In this game, "I" means "go in" and "O" means "go out",
although they are both the
same verb/action internally. I managed to avoid using these verbs in this walkthrough
to avoid confusion to players who may be more accustomed to "I" meaning
"inventory".
There is no EXAMINE command (not needed). Also, GET is not understood, so TAKE
should be used instead.
The wolfhound will repeatedly appear and sometimes kill the player immediately. If that
happens, then the player is teleported back to the palace. The lantern always goes back
to the lakeside and all other items are dropped in the room where the player died.
When the player re-spawns, the dropped items can all be picked up again and play
continued from the same room where the wolfhound attacked.
There are apparently a limited number of lives, but I have never reached that limit
whilst playing the game.
Using the walkthrough you can always complete the game easily without running out of
lives although the werewolf will probably kill the player once or twice. I do not know if
there is any way to prevent this in the game.
I found it best to collect the chalice lid last as this requires casting the spell. The spell is
itself an object and cannot apparently be dropped by the player. Once you have picked
the spell up, it permanently reduces your carrying capacity by one item.
Overall I found this one to be a highly enjoyable game and after finding some parts of
the Crystal Chalice, I found I had to keep playing until I completed the entire quest.

Text walkthrough:-

Note, when wolfhound appears, it can often be killed by
KILL WOLFH
once or twice as long as you are carrying the sword.

On the occasions when the wolfhound kills you, you are back at the palace having
dropped all items.

You can then retrieve the lantern again with
S, TAKE LANTERN
Then return to the location where you died and pick up the rest of your stuff again and
carry on the walkthrough from that point onwards.
Always take the sword first in case you get attacked again. Generally need the sword
and lantern in your inventory at all times in this game.
