CAVES OF SKULL
M. Freemantle
Dream World Adventure
Spectrum 48

This is an amazing, challenging game. It has plenty of atmosphere,
difficult puzzles (several fiendishly difficult), and includes a "mirror
image" section where messages are read and written in reverse. You need to
EXAMINE and SEARCH almost everything, including walls and ceilings where
you sometimes get hints. There are no unnecessary objects and you can
carry an unlimited amount of things.

Hints:

Use the dagger once (to dig) before prising the emerald.
]
LOOK and EXAMINE are not the same.

Sometimes there is no way of knowing what can befall you, so SAVE often.
For example, the Basilisk kills you before you are aware of it. To get
past remember than you cannot look at it or you will turn into stone (like
the Trogg did). You can't close your eyes, but you can turn yourself
around and ....

Remember the symbols on the doors? In other locations, you will also see
them and their translations. When you examine the stones and you see four
- they are your exit clue. DIG twice in this part of the dungeon before
you leave.
]
The longer you spend in the mushroom/weed forest, the worse off you'll be
and then you'll have to drink the water. You can skip looking at the
altars, but not searching the weeds.

The vine and axe come in useful more than once. The verbs LOOP, PULL, TIE
can be helpful.

In the reversed land, using a real mirror can help you read the messages
more easily. Reverse all words as well as the order of the words. Remember
to both examine and search most of the objects in the shack, including the
floor (five letters are all that are needed). You will need one three
letter combination (the same phrase that got you into this land), with the
reversed preposition at the end.

Dropped snakes scare rodents, but don't leave the snake behind.

When you see branches, JUMP EAST or WEST.

At the dead end, DIG CEILING.

The dungeons are tricky. Each time you pull the lever, you end up in a
different place. To get out the first time, examine the haze. The second
time is tricky, you need to translate the four letter word you found. The
third time you find a spell. The fourth go past a mirage.
