The Last Sonnet of Marie Antoinette By Emily Short For Z-code interpreters Solution by Garry Francis ---------------------------------------- There are many solutions to this game. The shortest one is D, N, ENTER GATE, G, G. In this case, you move on to some other place, the game does not complain and you don't get killed, but you have not prevented the universes from colliding, so this solution does not feel right. Let's try to prevent the cataclysm. The "correct" solution is quite short. It's obvious once you know how, but it may take quite a lot of in-game hints to work it out. Even then, there are multiple ways to get those hints. Here's how: Go to your quarters and examine the tripod. This tells you that you can use it to communicate with the dead, but they're more informative when fed. So, you have to put some food in the tripod when in the cemetary. You can feed them with the wheel of cheddar or the hot pepper. The wheel of cheddar won't fit in the tripod, so you need to reduce it in size by eating it or trimming it with the knife. The knife is in the wooden box. To open that, you can either cut it with the saw or unlock it with the silver key that you find by looking under the parchment. To get the pepper, you need to break the jar by throwing it or hitting it with the saw. So, here is a minimal solution with optional moves shown in brackets. The optional moves use the wheel of cheddar, but you can just as easily use the pepper as described above. As always, you'll need to EXAMINE lots of things for this solution to make sense. D E GET APRON WEAR IT (GET CHEDDAR) (EAT IT) S GET MIRROR PUT IT IN APRON (GET TRIPOD) N W (SW) (DROP TRIPOD) (PUT CHEDDAR IN TRIPOD) (NE) U PUT MIRROR ON TABLE ***THE END***
