Reading the runes will give you hints and clues, though they are very obscure. The clues are to open doors, and to get rid of the elementals which block your way. The elementals are the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. SAY the answers to the clues which are as follows: A red palace, strong and chambered, ruling the life, ungoverned by thought - HEART May be stolen, may be cold, may be hot, may be bold - speak in ear - LOVE In life, in movement, in foul and fair elimination, in winter seen in jubilation - BREATH Without thy might, without weapon, strike a blow that nay falls - BLOW As above as below - this is a red herring, unless you want to LOOK DOWN and see your feet You were not this and more, then left to travel on - EARTH Blood's gain, sword's bane, fire in water - RUST If there is none, time will stop - FIRE Reading the book: Both flowers of Corn and ZZZ give sleep - instead of fighting when you are attacked - ZZZ (this only works if you are carrying the book and the poppies) Ball of bone shall lead you in the deep (but only once while at your greatest need) - DROP BALL at the fork (but you don't really need to do this) Lugh gives light in dark (I found I didn't need this as I always had the torch and tinderbox with me) Say fire and place the burning plant before the place of fire that has no door - this refers to the burnt out place where you see the square to the south Gold untouched by man or beast will not poison at a feast - I think this refers to the fact that the meat and bread are poisoned, but a golden liquid is not. Saying some of these things will give you other clues, which when spoken in the right places, will give you four objects you need. These words are : RA - which governs the weapon of fire HAA - which governs the rod of air DAHB - which governs the weapon of water ABBA - which governs the realm of earth. You must be holding the poppies for this to work There are many red herrings: ignore the blade, the glass leaves, the old ring, the jewels, the wax, the birdcage, the meat, the bread, the wolfbane, and the bones; possibly also the honeycomb and the ball. There are several chance elements (20 - 30 %) when you are attacked. Your final score is a complex combination of finding objects and hitting some attackers (plus), and either hitting other attackers or running away (minus). SAYing LUGH will not get you more points but will prevent you from losing some when facing the spider (30 points) or the fetch (15 points). Your power also wanes using this spell and increases when you enter the room with the painted circle which, if you enter, takes you back to the start. REST and EATing HONEY improves your strength when you are weak which is also increased if you fight/don't fight, though there are times when you cannot eat it (message says your are full).
