This is a minimal solution. You'll need to EXAMINE lots of things for this solution to make
sense. A few optional (but important) moves are shown in brackets.
You need to go north to get to the night club, but you can't do that while the stranger is
hanging around. To get past him, you'll need to get his autograph. To do that, you'll need
to know his name, give him something to sign and something to sign with. The felt tip pen won't
work, so be creative. You will also need to know what instrument he played. Everything you need can
be found in the record store.
There are two ways to get the single, buy it or steal it. If you buy it, you won't have enough
money, but you can get the extra quarter from the payphone after Tom Verlaine attacks it. If you
steal it (as in this solution), you'll save your money, but you'll get mugged and lose it
all before reaching the club. Either way, you'll need to find some more money to pay for a
drink once you get into the club. Watch the panhandlers and follow their example. There are two pens
in the game. You can use either one because the yuppies aren't fussy.
When you get to the club, you'll find that your ticket is too old, so you'll have to find
another way in. Watch the band members and groupies entering the back door and dress like them.
You'll need two items.
Once you get inside, you can't get into the mosh pit until you've bought a drink (hence
the need for money), but you don't have enough to buy wine and the bar doesn't sell wine
anyway. You can only buy beer. Once you drink the beer, things start to get a bit weird. By the time
you've encountered all of the band members, you'll know your real goal. You'll need a
tape recorder, the missing tape with the missing chord, the guitar and the guitar pick.
There are a few small bugs, but there's one that makes the game unwinnable. There are four
tapes. You'll have to experiment to see which is the "correct" tape. If you put a
tape in the tape recorder, make sure you remove it using PRESS EJECT BUTTON. If you try removing it
any other way, the tape will be added to your inventory, but the game thinks it's still in the
tape recorder, so you can't insert another tape or eject it. This is very annoying, as it
happens right at the end of the game and you have to RESTART.
If you get stuck, type HINT in the area where you're stuck. This gives you a code that varies
depending on where you are. Use that code to get the hints for that area.
