playing games on a mac

#1 Post by terri » Mon Apr 11, 2011 11:49 pm

I have a friend who has a Mac computer. She likes to play games, so I thought I would introduce her to more interactive-type fiction games.

However, I haven't the foggiest idea about what games she can play. Do I just point to her to a site that has apple games? Does she need an emulator? And any idea of a nice, relatively simple game to start on?

Step-by-step pointers would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on Mac, but if she wants to play classic games on C64, Spectrum, Apple ][ or whatever, then yes, she needs an emulator.
If she wants to play modern IF, she needs an interpreter. There are a few available here:

For suggestions for beginner's games, I think Fredrik's Beginner's Guide is a good starting place. Note that some of the games are in TADS format, which isn't supported by the interpreters mentioned above.

World of Spectrum lists some Spectrum emulators at http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html#mac. I have no idea which is best but your friend should go for a Spectrum emulator that can handle the TZX file format.
