Dynacomp Adventures

#1 Post by Strident » Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:18 am

Following on from a post in the Recovered Adventures thread, I'm just posting these Dynacomp catalogues for further investigation, as I think there are some unlisted/unknown text adventures in them that need further investigating...

Catalog No. 30
https://archive.org/details/DynacompCat ... 0/page/n71

Catalog No. 32
https://archive.org/details/dynacompcat ... /page/n77/

Winter Catalog 1982/1983
https://archive.org/details/dynacomp-wi ... 1982-1983/

Lots to investigate further in those such as...

North Star was a new name to me, also.

I guess, Europe had its hoards of micros, but North America had hoards of CP/M machines.

Seems like Dynacomp also supported the Kaypro II, 4 and 10, which were Z80 CP/M machines...

Wow, some interesting games listed there. Dynacomp had hundreds of products in their catalogue and the quality wasn't particularly high. Most of the ones you've identified sound like genuine text adventures, but don't be surprised if some of them turn out to be RPG, simulation, CYOA or goodness knows what.

Starship Landing Party for the Atari 8-bit is listed on Atarimania, but it's MIA.

I'm actually wondering if Starship Landing Party is what became the MS-DOS game "Landing Party". The description is very similar but that one is more of a text-based strategy game.

Edit: Reading the description fully, the Dynacomp game is a single person beaming down with full textual input. The later (1989?) "Landing Party" is a five-person team with menu driven choices... But I do wonder if the Dynacomp game inspired it.
