SC-3000 Rabbit Hole... Unlisted Adventures

#1 Post by Strident » Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:59 pm

Okay, I've disappeared down a SEGA SC-3000 rabbit hole now and have randomly spotted lots of text adventures that we have missing from the database.

I'm posting a few of them here, but will need to return to investigate (and check) them, and the SC-3000 scene at some point with a more organised plan of action.

The Sega Computer magazines... https://www.digitpress.com/library/maga ... mputer.htm ...seem a good starting point, as just looking quickly in one issue I've spotted potential games like...

Castle of Fear

Definitely a text adventure, as shown here... https://segaretro.org/Castle_of_Fear

Text adventure??

The Tomb of Nozar, although combat-heavy seems to be a text adventure

It seems that there is also a Zivorx Adventure that appears in the SEGA Computer Christmas issue:

Yeah, I have quite a few on my list already. Many of the Flexisoft ones seem to have been text adventures.

This (!) was apparently the Zivorx Adventure inlay (?) https://www.smspower.org/Scans/ZivorxAd ... C-NZ-Inlay

Yes, Underworld of Kragon (Super-Adventure No.2 ) by Trident
https://segaretro.org/Underworld_of_Kragon
...is certainly a text adventure.

As, is Castaway
https://segaretro.org/Castaway

I've look at The House before, but I don't think that qualifies. https://segaretro.org/The_House

Ah, TTS stands for Trident Technology Systems, the publisher of some of these games and presumably that TTS Sega magazine too.

Orb of Power
https://segaretro.org/Orb_of_Power
...is a text adventure.

I wonder if that one is a port of one of the many Egyptian/Pyramid BASIC adventures.

Great work strident and auraes!

Any chance of adding links to archive sites where you can download these games and an emulator for the SC-3000?

I've yet to investigate the emulator side of things. I think I read that some of the MSX emulators would do. I've not yet come across an obvious repository for the games.

If you have MAME installed already then there's apparently a package that you can install that includes quite a few of the text adventures.

I just checked and the blueMSX emulator has an option for the Sega SC-3000. That's one less thing to worry about.

In addition to the SegaRetro website links above, there are some other nice photographs of SC-3000 text adventure packaging in this Retrowe Museum gallery...
