Spectrum game "Who is Gordon Bennet"

#1 Post by equinox » Thu Aug 27, 2020 6:26 pm

The main Spectrum archive sites list a Spectrum text adventure called "Who is Gordon Bennet", e.g. here:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... don_Bennet
However, no download is available. I dropped a line to Peter at SpectrumComputing and he said: "Sorry no idea. If you can find a copy online please let me know and I can add it."
I know a lot of old mail-order games are naturally missing from the archives, but this one was solved quite recently (2010 or later) by Terri Sheehan, using the Spectrum version:

So what's the story? Why is it lost, and does anyone have a copy?

Ooh... looking through the solution, I'd say that it's part of the Jonathan Scott/Stephen Boyd Zikov games.

I will do a bit more research... It might be the case that it's an existing game that's just been misfiled under a different name.

Yeah, it may be a misfiled solution for a version of The End is Nigh...

Which I've also noticed that we don't have currently grouped together with the other Zikov games.

Not the same as The End is Nigh, looking at the solution... but certainly some similar elements...

I'll do some more research. I'm not sure if anyone is still in contact with Jonathan.

I'm confident that it is a Jonathan Scott (& probably Stephen Boyd) game; having played their games back in the day and recently.

Always an interesting to trawl back through the archives as there's always something new to be noticed...

For example... I think this game is another (late) Jonathan Scott game that's been filed under "Jon Scott"...

Yeah, I should have mentioned the "Matilda" name! I've played a few in that Zikov series (and the humour somewhat clicks with me -- although he sometimes throws in totally random adjectives from a thesaurus, like we will see an "effulgent chair" or "timid table" or what not).
I hope we can find it! Thanks for looking.
