Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
Playing this text adventure game (ca. 1982) from Sirius 1/Apricot, on Windows 98SE in MS-DOS.
Anybody know how to overcome the siren??
Anyone interested in playing (I can tell you where to get it free or find it on Google Groups) - and maybe beating me to the Orb of Power?
Hoping to hear from you!

I fired it up under dosemu, made it inside the cave system. I dont like the fact that I feel like I need to 'search' in every location. I took a cursory look at the dat file and its not a basic XOR encryption.
I might keep on trying the game depending on my frustration level.

Island of Arturan Adventure
Hi Gunness
Hope you´re having fun - I actually started playing this about 25 years ago. About time I finished it...
Looking forward to dispatching the siren!

I have joined in, a bit late.
Challenging game, to say the least. I have explored the cave, pciked up what was there, but didn't enter past the Gbolin hall.
Also found the knight statue, with one letter to his name.
Are the sarcophagi red herrings?
BB's post said you need the rusty sword to use on the goblin chief and that it's found in the ruined church, but I have not found it. Any further hints here please?
I wondering whether the next step is to use the axe, log, and rope to make a raft.

Re: Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
I have managed to kill the siren and finished the game. You need to give the steel sword to the statue of the knight and then say his name (Hector.) He then will grant you one request to kill one monster. Just type: siren. He will take care of it.bb wrote:Playing this text adventure game (ca. 1982) from Sirius 1/Apricot, on Windows 98SE in MS-DOS.

However, I could not manage to finish the game with a perfect score. I could not figure out how to get the sack of loot from the statue of the thief, or how to kill the skeleton with the crown (you can kill either skeleton with the rusty sword, but then this weapon vanishes; so you are forced to kill the skeleton that has the dagger, since that item is necessary to finish the game, the crown isn't.)
Re: Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
OK, I figured out how to kill the skeleton with the crown: Throw dagger. That kills it. Now the only treasure I seem to be missing is the thief's sack.
Re: Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
OK, I have finally managed to get the bag of stolen goods from the thief. It's in the maze after you make him run away.
Finished the game with a 288 (maximum?) score, "this qualifies you as a master adventurer, grade 1"

Re: Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
The solution is online now
Re: Island of Artuan Adventure - kill siren??
I'd been randomly looking at some of the games by Kuma Software/Kuma Computing and, when looking up references for another title, and my eyes were drawn to The Island of Artuan.
I see that we've got this Kuma game in the database for Einstein, with a current date of release as 1984.

[A later Internet search threw up this thread, which is why I'm attaching this information here]
It's very clearly called (The) Island of Artuan on the cover and in game.
http://www.tatungeinstein.co.uk/games/artuan.htm
However, there are Kuma adverts listing a game called Isles of Artuan; which surely has to be the same adventure as I believe it's the one being discussed in this thread.
Some references for "Isles"...
For the Sirius 1 (the UK/European licensed version of the Victor 9000)

The same or similar advert is in lots of other publications, e.g.
Your Computer - August 1983 - https://archive.org/details/your-comput ... 8/page/n59
For the Apricot (which was ACT's follow-up to the Sirius)

Micro Adventurer Issue 9 - July 1984 - https://archive.org/details/MicroAdvent ... 84/page/n5 "The game already available for the Sirius, involves escaping from the island by facing "all the hazards of this bizarre realm".
Personal Computer News #63 2nd June 1984 - https://archive.org/details/mag_Persona ... 84/page/n5
*advert*
Your Computer - April 1984 - https://archive.org/details/your-comput ... /page/n73/
(Where it's listed in the Sirisu 1/Apricot section. The corresponding March 1984 advert does not have an Apricot section)
I wonder if the Sirius 1/Apricot version is online anywhere? Presumably the game was CP/M-based which is why it appeared on the three formats? [We don't even actually have the Sirius or the Apricot as "platforms" currently in our database]
Edit: The Apricot version is online at http://www.actapricot.org/disks/apr00254.dsk (It's described on a forum thread as being in an "obscure" format, https://rec.games.int-fiction.narkive.c ... nture-1982 )
Edit2: Ah, the poster on that thread is "bb", the same person starting the thread here.
I will add some of this information to the game entry and adjust the date of release to reflect the first appearance of the game.
