Windows program to edit atr images.

Windows program to edit atr images.
I'm not very familiar with Atari 8-bit computers. What is the best Windows utility for editing atr Atari disk images? At the moment I have AtrUtil95 1.13 but it cannot add or delete files to the images. It says "Deleting files from DOS 2.5 ED images is not yet supported". Can someone help?
Re: Windows program to edit atr images.
I normally user ATR Tools by Jay L Bray. It's not the greatest program on the planet, but does the job.
AtrUtil by Ken Siders is easier to use for basic functions like Delete, Rename and Export files.
makeATR by soudi is similar to AtrUtil, but also has a sector viewer.
I don't have any download links to hand. Let me know if you can't find them and I'll do a search. Otherwise, ask on AtariAge.

Re: Windows program to edit atr images.
I just tried it using version 1.13 and it appeared to work fine. However, after saving the file and opening it again, it said *Unknown Dos Format (Not a Dos Disk)*. It looks like it screwed up the disk, so better not use that one!
Re: Windows program to edit atr images.
You're right. Choose Tools > Disk Explorer, Click the ellipsis button to open an atr disk image, then right-click on a file and choose Delete or Rename from the shortcut menu.www.atarimania.com wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 11:20 amI believe you can use Altirra for that as well.
Of course, you can also do this stuff using Atari DOS.
Re: Windows program to edit atr images.
Unfortunately, Altirra detects that the images are corrupted (alptraum game) and goes into read-only mode.www.atarimania.com wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 11:20 amI believe you can use Altirra for that as well.
I think you could also add this game to the missing Atari games as the versions on the internet are faulty.

makeATR did the job. Thanks!

Can you confirm the one I uploaded earlier is faulty as well? Considering the files are from different sources, the problem may come from the original disk.

I think I might have fixed it. The directory was offset by 1 sector and the first sector of the directory was replaced by dummy file names. There was a clash between the file numbers in the dummy file names and the real files so that you can't view or trace the files. DOS.SYS had been modified to accommodate the offset directory. I moved the directory to where it should be (on both disks) and replaced DOS.SYS with a non-modifed DOS.SYS and everything seems to work fine. The files can be viewed and the game runs. Can you please test it, as I don't speak German? (It looks like a good candidate for translation to English.)
Hmm, I can't attach the file. The error message says the board attachment quota has been reached. I'll try attaching it in a personal message.

Alex, I couldn't get PM to accept any file extensions, so I've sent you an email.

Unfortunately, your version does not solve the problem. Perhaps the game is just bugged. Most of the verbs are not recognized,
Yes, unfortunately the version on Atarimania has the same problem.www.atarimania.com wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 12:54 amCan you confirm the one I uploaded earlier is faulty as well?

Re: Windows program to edit atr images.
Do you mean the one on our page or from the link I provided? The latter was from a different dump and archived from an original. I understood it didn't work either so I asked DjayBee what he thought and he came up with another "version" from that second dump (exact same link, sorry if I confused you). BTW, according to him, the offset is intentional, likely a protection so that people like you don't mess around with the code
Did you try other things such as the disk read-write option on or off? Actually, DjayBee came up with a fix so the files could be accessed but that's all, no idea what's up with the game otherwise. I also have the seven "faulty" files if you need them.

Today I made it to room 29 on my map. I need to find a newspaper somewhere. I will continue tomorrow or Thursday.
