Re: Jörg Walkowiak Adventure Books

It's impossible to finish the Amstrad version of Gefahr im Kaufhaus due to bugs. Someone commented (in private) that this seems to be Jörg Walkowiak's trademark. I've done a bug-fixed version. This is the version that I was getting tested by a native German speaker, as I don't speak German myself ...

Re: Jörg Walkowiak Adventure Books

This is a topic close to my heart, as I've spent a lot of time with Jörg Walkowiak's games. I should warn you that they are very buggy and most of them won't run as printed in the various books. Some of them have large chunks of code missing.

I think the first one I did was an English translation ...

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

I've identified the following VZ200 games that sound like adventures, but haven't yet been sited and aren't listed on CASA:
Adventure Island (unknown author), Lysco
Enchanted Princess (Gary McCleary), Lysco (reviewed in VZDU , issue 29, March/PRIL 1991, p. 6)
The Lost Crown (author unknown), Ape ...

Re: Steven C. Darnold

I have just read that article by Peter Archer in TPUG Magazine , issue 15, June/July 1986, pp. 14-15. It's a fascinating read. All the dates make sense and fit into the timeline.

So, the sequence goes like this...

Steven C Darnold wrote 'Atlantis Adventure' as a reworking of Greg Hassett's 'Trip ...

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

Thanks. I'll give it another go. It didn't crash. The most obvious bug(s) were when you search to find something (such as the note), get it, then search again and it disappears from your inventory and reappears in the room. I just assumed that was because of the 10 line limitation.

The lack of DROP ...

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

I spoke too soon. The game is very buggy. Lots of guess-the-verb and guess-the-noun, awkward mapping and sudden death. Even if I follow the solution and read the source code, it can't be solved. Maybe it works on one of the other platforms.

Re: Arthur Davis Detective Encounter

What happened to #1 and #2?

There are no dumps of the Atari versions at AtariMania. Haven't checked anywhere else.

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

Hey, Jim. I downloaded your Area 51 for the VZ200, but it is corrupted. When you run it, it says "?UNDEF'D STATEMENT ERROR IN 1". Listing line 1 has a GOTO100, but there is no line 100. When I list the program, it ends in gobbledegook.

Did you do this one yourself or did someone else port it? If ...

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

Another one that you haven't mentioned is 'Scotland Yard'. I've seen this mentioned as an adventure a couple of times, but the convincing evidence for me was an ad in VZ Link , issue 21, June 1988, p.15. This lists 'Castle Greystone' for $12.50, 'Haunted Mansion' for $12.50, 'Knights Quest' for $15 ...

Re: Screenshots resolution

I use SnagIt. When I do a screen grab for the TRS-80, I use the filter to trim the screen to the correct size (prior to scaling), resize the image to 384 x 192 and make sure smooth scaling is turned off so that the final image is nice and sharp. You only have to do this once and save it in a custom ...

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

I found another one. 'The Secret of Volcano Island' was written by Owen Ross and published in VZ Down Under #40. I've typed it in and played it through to the end. I'll write it up tomorrow night. For anyone that's interested, here's the disk image and vz snapshot.

Re: Scott Le Brun & VZ200/300 text adventures

'The Thief of Bagdad' was published in VZ Down Under, issue 1.

'The Mystery of Silver Mountain' was ported to the VZ200 and published in VZ Down Under, issues 4-8 with an update in 9, and VZ Link Newsletter, issues 11-15.

There are others. All details to be confirmed.
