Re: The Orion Quest c64

It would probably be worth mentioning the fact that a corrupted/non-working version of the game exists, on the game page (or in the solution).

Re: The Orion Quest c64

I just sent a pm to the person who uploaded the screenshot. Hopefully he will answer.

Yeah, the version that seems to be on all the archive sites must surely be bugged... It just behaves so oddly.

Re: The Orion Quest c64

I guess the spade might be a key item, for uncovering some of the others, so the fact that you can't ENTER the building in the clearing is really going to prevent any progress.

Re: The Orion Quest c64

Can you post the code? I've no idea how to access that on a C64. :)

Re: The Orion Quest c64

The Spectrum version was advertised, but I have reason to think it was not released, since it was never reviewed nor mentioned as definitely existing. Happy if anyone can prove me wrong. By the looks of it not a lot was missed.

The BBC version was advertised, and mentioned in the news article ...

Re: The Orion Quest c64

What is particularly frustrating is that is will understand an input and then says it can't understand that very same input a few seconds later.

Like you say, it's amazing this got released. It was extensively advertised as part of the range too.

I can only find a single (Italian!) review of the ...

Re: The Orion Quest c64

I've seen the alien more than a few times. It feels like he appears randomly at the oasis.

Edit: Yep, I've just rediscovered him again after visiting the oasis multiple times. This time I did get the "light dims on your belt message" when I examined him. (This message seems to appear when you do ...

Re: The Orion Quest c64

Yeah... I couldn't do much in it; except die in a few places (the swamp, the pit).

It only seems to be working off the first couple of letters of the input.

I've seen (on You Tube) someone get a different response when examining the alien ("a light appears on your belt") but that didn't happen ...

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop...

Just spotted this @Gunness after noticing that we have two entries for The Guild as a publisher. :)

The Guild and The Guild Adventure Software publisher entries need to be combined into a single entry.

Yes, they are both the same. The problem is, that a lot of the C64 games they "published" were ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

I wonder why John Elliott, in Unquill, considers in his code that a movement word is less than 20 and not 13? (That's not going to keep me awake at night!)
Thank you for the acknowledgements at the end of your document, but it's useless. You can remove them in the next version (you will do as you ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

It' s not probably the mistake of your life, but... NOTZERO flagon. => flagno.
There is also an "Ink x y" in the unquill.txt documentation:
*INK x y
On the CPC6128, this is used to change the palette used: x is
the pen number, 0-3, and y is the colour to use for that pen.
Are you sure there's ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

I agree that I've accidentally switched them around during all this editing. :)

However, I'm not sure I agree about your >13 point.

Word values less than 13 should be reserved for movement words.

So a word value greater than 12 is fine for an object word.

Ah yes, this is what I get for trying to fix it quickly. :) I think it should be correct now... I do plan to go back and expand the whole section about vocabulary numbers at some point.
