Gee, I hadn't even considered that the game would be based on Bunyan's story. I don't remember the reviews or intro saying anything about this. I just figured that the bible would help you solve the puzzles (which are at almost every step along the way).

To get the key you need to have the pole to use in the crushing room.
To get the pole you need to go down one of those holes, find your way around back to where you dropped some things (at the other hole), drop things, and go back and retrieve things, i.e. walk ...
