Re: New game from Ron Gilbert

Looks good, if there were only a sensible means of payment.

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

True, House of Hell was really tough. I believe there is only one exact "right" path through the book. Unlike the sci-fi titles, I thought it made a very nice change from the typical swords and sorcery formula, though. The ending was a bit unfortunate, insofar that it really showed one of the ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Was The City of Thieves the one where you could keep starting over if you lacked the right info/items, or was that Forest of Doom?
Forest of Doom – that was the only redeeming feature of that one, though. And it wasn't even done right: Many sections didn't account for you having visited earlier ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Ah, yes, I still have a couple of those sitting on my shelf :)

Citadel of Chaos was quite devious insofar that at one point, it asked the player to enter a three-digit combination lock by jumping to that numbered section - so this was pretty much impossible to pass by cheating. Either you knew the ...

Re: Retro Gamer - anyone keeping track

There has now been a German Retro Gamer for some time. They adapt most of their contents from the English edition and add some original contents. I bought a couple of issues, but I doubt I will continue to do so. I find it overly fluffy, everything seems to revolve around the same usual few subjects ...

Re: no access

So, just go through this site instead and it'll work. Whether this permission setting is a bug or intended policy, I can't say or decide; will need to be discussed by Jacob upon his return.

Hello duikkie,

did you come through this site, i.e. http://solutionarchive.com/game/id,743/Oxbridge.html or did you follow a deep link from anywhere else?

Re: Walkthroughs for IFComp games?

I noticed there were a lot of IFComp 2010 games filled in but not 2012. Is there any guideline for converting them? The addition of IFComp games to the site was semi-automated, I don't know if the person responsible for the scripts can currently spare the time to run the scripts to bring IFComp ...

Textpäckchen launched!

What better way to welcome the new year than with new text adventures? Textpäckchen is a German cooperative project aiming at releasing new games regularly at fixed dates over the year.

The first two games are impatiently waiting for players:

Re: New English version A Pokal Angyala (Angel of the Hell)

Alex, I've changed the file name slightly because you gave it a "d64" extension when in fact it is a zipped file.

Thanks, I forgot to change it. First I've uploaded it as a d64 file but it was easier to download as a zip file (the d64 opened as a textfile when you click it to download)
Jacob, do ...

Alastair: I hope that's not directed at me – I play the IF Competition games every year, so I'm open to new stuff ;)

Anyway, Dave, having listened through your episodes now, I would say you're on the right track :) In the latest episode, you're not reading pre-made texts anymore and in the reviews ...

Hey Dave, I would like to listen to this, but do you have any publicly accessible site? Obviously, I (and I would assume everybody else, too) don't have access to your administrative web frontend.

Re: Feasibility Experiment

Alright, I made it through the game. Spectrum solution verified and uploaded. I also made a map, though that was tough with all those crazy one-way connections… I also restricted myself to mapping only the parts of the tunnel maze which are used in the solution.

Minor corrections for the C64 ...

Re: Feasibility Experiment

Thanks, I tried the C64 version and the solution seems to work (only tried as far as where it failed on the Spectrum). The only thing which would need to be changed is: TIE ROPE TO TREE --> TIE ROPE, TO TREE

I would suggest marking the solution as being only applicable to the C64 version, though ...
