Re: Authoring System Not Currently Showing

Has it affected the number of solutions being submitted? Personally I have to admit that I've lost all interest in completing and providing maps and solutions since the points table has stopped updating. :( it was the competition amongs those around me on the points table that kept me going. In fai...

Submitting material does not cause a problem, the problem arises when entries are updated (*) so you can keep submitting whatever material you wish.
Thanks, that's a relief. Hope the snag can be fixed soon.

Re: Authoring System Not Currently Showing

I wasn't aware there was an issue preventing further updates of the database; I assumed it was just a backlog bottleneck. Do you want me to stop submitting material until there is an opportunity to clear the backlog? I don't want to make the problem any worse.

Re: No longer receiving email notifications

My notifications were still ticked to receive emails, but I'm not receiving any. I have quite a few maps and solutions awaiting approval so maybe the approvers aren't getting notifications of uploaded content either? Maybe, but I wouldn't worry too much. The processing of the upload queue is somewh...

Re: No longer receiving email notifications

Under Board preferences > Edit notification options , I previously had all EMAIL options selected. I have now selected all NOTIFICATIONS options, so that when I view the forum, I can at least see the recent notifications. Exactly the same as above. I can't remember ever changing those settings, but...

Re: Scott Adams graphical adventures. S.A.G.A

For the ZX Spectrum, only Adventureland, Secret Mission, both Savage Island parts and Claymorgue have graphics (either by Teoman Irmak or Julian Howell). I think these were never marketed as SAGA, as far as I'm aware. There were ports of Pirate Adventure, Voodoo Castle and Strange Odyssey, but witho...

Re: No longer receiving email notifications

I can confirm this happens to me as well. I had assumed this was a deliberate global change in settings or policy, and did not think again of it as it was unimportant. But then again, it may be an unintended side effect.

It certainly writes better copy than 90% of humans. That's something not to be dismissed. I hope we will see cooler developments in times not long from now.

Re: AI adventure game creating

You realise that the system is improvising the answers instead of attaching a logic model to the player's actions and responding in kind, don't you? The conversation is something that *resembles* an adventure game playthrough from a grammatical (and even semantic) standpoint, as long as you don't lo...

Re: RPGs... removal discussion & log

For instance the comment about a classic textadventure needs carryable object, there are a few games in the database that are definitely a classic text adventure but you can't carry objects ("The Yawn" for instance). "The Yawn" is not what I'd call "classic" myself, but your point is valid anyway. ...

Re: RPGs... removal discussion & log

In my book, a classic text adventure needs to have: (1) puzzles solvable with minimal influence of chance; (2) carriable objects; and (3) a text input interface, with or without proper parsing. Anything not matching these three items does not qualify. However, I'm not judging whether non-qualifying ...

Granny's Place

The question has been asked of whether this game was written by Dian Crayne, like the other Temple Software games. I have been playing all of them for a while now - this is the one that has resisted efforts so far, but I'm reasonably convinced the game is indeed Mrs Crayne's work. Available evidence...

I don't think they were probably good games, but I think at least a couple of them existed.
We can hope! I admit to having been intrigued by the ads as well, and I'd very much like to see one of those. Stranger things have happened, as you rightly point out.

Re: Arthur Davis Detective Encounter

There is no evidence that I'm aware of that any of these ever had existed. Advertising for software that was not yet finished (or even started!) was relatively common in the 80s, and there are plenty of examples of games confirmed by the people involved that were never finished / released. If any of...
