Now, if it's any horror game that you're interested in, rather than just Lovecraft, I would give strong recommendations to The Abbey and Hampton Manor . Both of these are "modern", though about 15 years old now. Hahaha, yeah, "modern" is definitely in the eye of the beholder! I'm sure that some ret...

About 2 years ago I posted a short list of various Lovecraft-inspired games that I've come across on the IF archive, over HERE . The big ones have already been brought up -- Hound of Shadow , Lurking Horror , and Anchorhead . Some of the others on the list are well worth checking out, though. To tha...

Nevermind. I'll try reading the other things that are posted here before shooting my mouth off next time.

Hezarin
If anybody has checked on the IF Archive lately, Richard Bos recently submitted a walkthrough to Topologika's Hezarin . This is an extremely large game, comparable to Acheton , and every bit as difficult and unforgiving (I've never gotten very far). http://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/phoenix/hints/...

Yes, thanks for the inside information. I had been thinking about trying to contact you, but I didn't know if you'd appreciate unsolicited emails from strangers asking about pirated copies of your company's software. If it's any consolation, the Penguin titles I played and loved in those days were a...

Yup, there's a volume 3. Don't know what games it covers, though going by the precedent set by the first two books, I'm guessing it's going to have all c64 and apple 2 games, with Infocom and Scott Adams adventures heavily represented. Maybe not, though, since the first two books covered most of tho...

Another chapter in the saga of this mystery version. I recently bought off eBay Kim Schuette's The Book of Adventure Games volume II. One of the games that is mapped and solved is Crimson Crown , the first half only! It is cited as being by Penguin Software rather than Polarware. Here is what the en...

Lovecraftian Games on the IF Archive
Anybody else fanatic about H.P. Lovecraft like me? As important as his work was to the horror genre in literature, it always surprises me how few games there are that tribute Lovecraft. The best known commercial examples in the interactive fiction world are probably Infocom's The Lurking Horror and ...

I tried out those instructions in AppleWin, and it worked quite well. The Crimson Crown version in question does not have any of the rooms from the second half of the game stored anywhere on either disc. I have been able to display all the rooms from the first half, though. So the question is why is...

That's possible. My reason for thinking this might not be true is because that same file also describes a method for cheating by displaying some of the game's text and graphics. My AppleSoft Basic is very rusty, so I haven't yet gotten around to rolling up my sleeves and trying out any of his code, ...

Small update on this problem. Completely by accident, I came across a solution for the game apparently written in 1985, which seems to have come from one of the old bulletin boards. The solution takes you right up to where the game stops and concludes with: Congratulations! End of Part I. (to be con...

Help with Amistrad
I'm trying to play the Amistrad version of Castle of the Skull Lord on Caprice. I'm not familiar with the Amistrad's operating system, so if a game doesn't automatically run when rebooting with a disk image inserted, I have no idea to proceed. Can anyone give me some tips? Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind. A...
