I wrote Grave Robber partly as a programming exercise to try to learn a new language (OPL), but mostly for fun. On a hard drive somewhere is a Mac version that I wrote in C, but I haven't tracked it down yet. I wanted to make a traditional text adventure of the kind I played on the Spectrum and C64 in the 1980s, and also take the mickey a bit out of the Tomb Raider games (which I love). Hence Nina Craft, a female adventurer who is not the remotest bit like Lara Croft, honest - certainly not in her callous disregard for human life, contributions to the extinction of rare animal species, and plundering of other cultures' ancient treasures...
I wrote the game in 1999, at a time when I was starting to write novels in the hope of becoming a published author. In 2007, I actually did: my debut novel was THE HUNT FOR ATLANTIS, an action thriller starring a young female archaeologist called Nina! (I changed her surname to Wilde, though - same number of syllables, but a bit less on-the-nose about one of her inspirations. She's also far less murderous.) So in a way, this game was partly responsible for starting my new career. I'm currently writing the 15th novel in the series!
