The Test is an aptitude examination given to prospective members of the EFF (The Elite Fighting Force - a bit like the SAS). This involves being dropped by parachute into an environment that has been made deliberately hostile and working your way out by means of your wits. Only the best will survive as you are pitted against mental and physical puzzles.
The original Amstrad (CP/M) version of The Test was reviewed in Adventure Probe issue 04/06, where it was noted that the game was available direct from the author.
The Spectrum version is credited as being programmed by Philip Reynolds.
The Amiga/Atari ST/PC release was a greatly expanded version of the original game, converted by Bob Adams using AGTBIG and published by Amster Productions.

Now this is an excellent puzzlefest; tough but so far logical. I am just hoping that part of the elite training exam that underpins the plot doesn't include having to repair dodgy code in the Amstrad port.
Unfortunately it is not possible to start part two after completing part one via the Amstrad version if you have been saving games as snapshot files. Upon completion of the first part you have to enter a file name and load this after running "test 2" which is the second part of the game. Unfortunately the game rejects any file name so you can't enter the second part. Such a shame.
Boldir, when you played the Spectrum version did you save the game via an emulator or using the game's save game facility? I am keen to know if it is worth trying the Spectrum version to access Part 2 of this excellent game.
You do need to load in a saved game to play part two (it doesn't use a password system). You can create and save to a "blank" tape (or disk for the Amstrad) image in most emulators.
Thanks Strident. I will have to see if ZEsarUX has that capability.
Sadly no luck with saving to a new drive. The ZEsarUX emulator hangs when attempting to load the saved game at the end of Part One. As quite a few games for the Amstrad come in two parts this is a pity.
I'll try and give it a go at some point. (I think I usually use WinAPE). With these PAWed games on the Amstrad, you probably need to be saving and loading from a blank CP/M formatted disc.
Thanks Strident. I will be interested to hear what you find. I know ZEsarUX won't load .dsk files when choosing SAM Coupe files for that particular emulator for instance. Maybe WinApe will be better.
