My Mysterious Adventures journey continues with Wizard of Akyrz which returns to the fantasy world seen earlier in The Golden Baton and Arrow of Death. This instalment begins with you and a distraught king who needs his princess and treasure saving.
It's a fairly straightforward at first, although I found that I needed to go back and examine something I missed and then to go in a direction that wasn't clearly described.
It's little bits like this that make the game slightly frustrating and, thanks to CASA, a walkthrough was very helpful. it took me a while to work out how to store my treasure (vital as you don't have a big inventory), but most of the puzzles are quite pleasing to solve.
Overall it's a pretty standard collect the treasure and save the girl tale with a rather disappointing ending.
Parser/Vocabulary (Rating: 6/10)
Two word input, standard.
Atmosphere (Rating: 6/10)
Alright, but not great. NPCs are very two dimensional, the princess is really just a treasure object. The descriptions are reasonable enough to set the scene.
Cruelty (Rating: Polite)
A couple of points where, if you miss an object or carry out a wrong action, you can hit a dead end. Also a couple of points where you are dropped back into a maze from earlier. Not many deaths.
Puzzles (Rating: 6/10)
Typically for this series they are fairly sensible although use of the wand seems a bit random.
Overall (Rating: 6/10)
An OK game, I wouldn't go out of my way to play it though, unless you are a completist like myself who enjoys finishing a series.
