This was the third adventure in a trilogy written by the author (Castlemaze and Tunnelmaze preceded it) and is by far the largest.
It is a standard collect ten treasures and store them quest but is more intricate and item-laden than most games in the genre.
A large inventory and a small inventory limit add to the difficulty but there are a couple of tangential acts of philanthropy to undertake before you can gain the wherewithal to amass all the booty.
It has 206 locations and quite a few traditional style mazes and dark areas but careful planning should see you through in the end.
The parser is pretty adequate although relies a lot on the USE verb which I have never been fond of as it is too vague and I ended up trying it on a vast number of puzzles just in case. Surely BOARD TRAIN or GET ON TRAIN and CLIMB STAIRS aren't that tough to program?
Some meta objects are unrecognised as are most synonyms.
The location descriptions are short and never evocative but this is really all about the puzzles.
I didn't come across a single typo or grammatical infelicity which is gratifying indeed.
Not very immersive; staccato descriptions and, for example too many rooms with just beds in them which leads you to repeat the same commands over and over again.
The game has no lamp or hunger daemons although you can screw up by running out of money or taking certain treasures into silly places (like underwater for example).
I struggled for a while not knowing if I should stash the treasures first or sell them for money. As you explore things become clearer hopefully.
The biggest pain is the inventory limit of five objects as I spent a lot of time carting items around the large map. There is a short cut later on but it does cost you a Lady Godiva (look it up) each time. There are quite a few red herrings - fortunately you won't have to worry about interacting with the cow-pat.
This is by far the best thing about the game. They are mostly of medium difficulty but I wouldn't call any of them unfair. The puzzles with the rocks and the sunglasses/umbrella I particularly liked.
Not a bad effort at all. If you like large treasure hunts give it a go. I played on the Vice emulator and it was very fast.
