This was the fifth DOS reworking of Brian Cox's Supersoft games that I have came across (after Forestland, Catacombs, Cornucopia and Witch Hunt) and is probably the smallest and easiest. Unlike several of the others it is also mercifully bug free as far as I can tell.
The well-worn premise is to collect treasures from a nearby goblin-guarded castle and return your plunder to the small cottage in which you start.
Some exact navigation of the forest around the castle, a couple of secret exits when you have found your way in and a spot of random combat is basically all there is. This would be a good introduction to text adventures for a neophyte but anyone with any experience should be home and hosed in a couple of hours. This is I think the only one of the five games with a lamp timer and no opportunities to refuel but the 250 odd moves in the dark should be more than enough.
When all is safely gathered in you should be a Dungeon Master with a score of 160 points; there is no end or congratulatory message as far as I can see.
There are few objects and 49 locations so the vanilla parser provided is adequate.
I like the green text on black that DOSBox-X displays as default for this game.
Run of the mill and rather terse forest/castle/secret passage descriptions of your surroundings.
Apart from the lamp timer this game is pretty kind towards its adventurer. I never lost a bout during combat and the puzzles in the dungeon and the brambles are about as subtle as a ten ton weight dropped on your head. The lamp timer is more than generous for your needs.
There are only three that I can remember and none are of the head-scratching or innovative variety.
Five is pushing it but I have a soft spot for old fantasy games.
