blue dragon - BBC game

I have returned to this game with the hope that I could get further. Unfortunately, I cannot find my notes, and can't even get to where I once was.

This game does not recognize "EXAMINE".

Anyway, I have made it as far as visiting the castle and having what the bird needed to see. I am stuck at watering the bean.

It would be nice to have someone with whom to play along.

I have played this game before, and became stuck too, but at a later stage than where you are: in the undergound tunnels where there is a wall with the outline of a door and a triangular slot on it. I could never figure out how was this used/activated. And apparently neither did the author of this review back in the day:

http://8bs.com/reviews6.htm#blue
Can you uncover the secret of the "triangular slot in the wall by an
almost invisible door"? If so, please write to me c/o Electron User and
let me know, because I couldn't!
Further down there is a giant slug that kills you (could never figure out how to either kill it or just escape from it.)

Also, the above quoted reviewer mentions a "knight" which I also could not find on the earlier part of the game:
You should be able to solve most of the mysteries surrounding you
and, provided you have found that elusive knight (hint), you should be
able to collect all the goodies and wipe the sneer off that bird's face.
Watering the bean is easy. Just take the bottle with the strange brown liquid that's found in the old shed, the same place you find the bean. Then go back to the garden and plant it. Then POUR LIQUID. It will grow into a huge beanstalk.

I wanted to give this one a try, but all the versions I could find on the internet give an error when I want to play them with an emulator (B-em v2.1a). Someone a hint were I can find a working copy?

Isn't this the knight who was enchanted by a witch and which gives you the very sharp sword as you break the spell?

I suppose so. Where and how did you find him?

A lot of things in this game are random. The knight is one thing. You'll encounter him in the location directly north of the start location. Just hang around untill he appears. Unfortunately a lot of other things also seem random like killing the witch and the orcs. One time I encountered a battle axe in the armoury but most of the time it isn't there. I only just started playing. I'll let you know when I'll reach the door you mentioned or earlier when I get stuck elsewhere :) . I just made it to the spot on top of the beanstalk where you can get the urn of dragon dust.

OK, I stumbled upon the knight. It seems that when this happens the battle axe disappears and you have to use the sword he leaves behind instead. I know because I made sure that the battle axe was in the armoury, exited out through the window and then met the knight. I took his sword and went back to the armoury, but now the axe was gone.

I just made it through the door. You need the gem to open it. Just type insert gem and the door opens. You enter the cave with the slug and the wraith.

To kill the slug you need the two magic words you encounter on the parchments and combine them to make a new one.

Did any of you find a way through the mists?

I think I leave this game for now. I hope the above is helpfull to get you further on. I don't like it when a game has a lot of random elements and you can be killed by them. For instance the iron ladder which crumbles randomly when you climb down or the fights with the orcs.

Where is this gem?

I have only found one part of the parchment (it crumbles to dust when I pick it up, though.) Where are the other ones?

The gem you get when you give the bag of gold from the casle to the dwarf which you can find in the location directly north on top of the beanstalk.

The first parchment is on the location right from the start. The other parchemnt you can find inside the caves below the well. When you take the parchments they crumble and you can read something on them. these two words you have to combine in the right order to obtain the magic spell to get rid of the slug.

OK, I have been able to do all this. Apparently the ladder is not necessary. You can reach that level by just going down the slope, killing the slug and then go east. I also don't see the point (yet) in killing the slug because it seems you can avoid it just by going down the ladder. Unless there is something to do in that room where the slug is.

thanks, gentlemen, I'll see how I get on.

Yes, I noticed the random elements, and also dislike them.

It also has more than one way to solve a puzzle (like the knight's sword and/or the battleaxe.

Yes, I read the review also.

I get the urn but the wizard gets me. How to avoid him?

Alternatively, I found the parchment, and cast the spell. Many of these locations are only one-way.

If you make an additional move, sometimes the ladder does not break.

Finally managed to get out.

So, which order do you do things?

I hope someone keeps playing. Or at least helps me out.

Just play the silver flute. He will take the spell off of the princess.
Alternatively, I found the parchment, and cast the spell. But this gets to a dead end with the ladder. Many of these locations are only one-way.

I am not sure what to do next after killing the slug and exiting the cave. You go back to the first area. But this time there is no bird (the princess is free from the spell), and the galley still seems to be empty.
