Hall of the King - TRS-80 CoCo

#1 Post by Juan »

Anyone around here ever played the first part of this trilogy for the TRS-80 CoCo?:

Back in the day it was billed as "the largest adventure campaign available for any computer" (it was a total of 6 disks, 2 for each part of the trilogy):

I was able to finish the second part:

And I am currently stuck at what is likely close to the end of the third one (see my topic dedicated to this third part for more details), but I have not been able to do much in the first part. I don't know if it's just that I have not been able to discover what commands to use for some things to happen or if the only copy I was able to find on the Internet is corrupted. I took a look at the game with an editor and there's things that I can't seem to trigger with any command I have tried. For example, in the room with the dumbwaiter I can't make the rope appear (you can see it drawn on the graphics screen, but it does not appear on the "You see" section.) You need to pull the rope in order for the dumbwaiter to be raised, but commands like Examine or Search do not seem to do the trick of making you actually see that it's there.

I am not familiar with the game but looking around some other sites I see that at one point you need to refer to a crowbar as "cro" so perhaps "examine dum" and "pull rop" will work?

Yes, that was in part 3, and it was a bug in the program. But here there is something else at play since I have already tried such things and it is not that. Either I am not discovering the right commands, or carrying the right items at the right places, or the only copy I have been able to find of it on the Internet is corrupted.

Anyone who wants to try these games they can be found here:

Regarding the dumbwaiter have you visited the kitchen? If not then you should GET GLASS (pane) and explore the area revealed.

Thanks! That was the big stumbling block I had not been able to get around. I have finished the game. If you get stuck anywhere let me know.

Be my guest to check out the third one and see if you can solve where I have become stuck (it must be close to the end.)

You should write a walkthrough for the first one. The credit is all yours, since you solved the part where I was stuck.

I'll write a solution to the first part, but first I want to solve the last part.
