Deliverer 1

This is a Spectrum game written by Brian Parks, the prequel to Deliverer 2 (which was fixed by Alastair, I believe). Available at WoS. Deliverer 2 was written with PAWS/QUILL, but this one is written with GAC.

Anyway this game seems to have some random elements to it in places.

I have managed to get out of my ship before it blew up. I am now in an endless string of coloured doors with a grill between them. They look like elevator doors, and require three buttons to be pressed to open the door. At least I think that is what is required. I cannot get to the east end of Gallery 0.

You can climb up the stairs all the way to gallery 7, but the same thing occurs on every floor.

The first number seems to be the floor, and the next two are the "room" numbers.

I continue to get a first message of "clunk", a second message of "click" and a third message of "ping - wrong code"

Short of entering every possible combination of numbers, there must be a logical way to determing which buttons to push. With this many possibilities, it shouldn't be random, should it?

Any logicians out there who can help?

I've been meaning to get around to this game, I suppose that now I'd better get to it! :D

First off, have you fixed the Hovvabug? You need the Hovvabug to tell you the room and combination numbers - the Hovvabug's a bit like the Tidybot from the second game in this respect. You can also enter the Hovvabug by going up.

Thanks for trying this, Alastiar.

No I haven't fixed the robot. I haven't found the warble valve.

Can you give me a hint where it is? Please?

Just keep examining the junk heap near the beginning (BTW the component required to fix the robot seems to be random, the same with the room and combination numbers).

Greez. I did look again, but probably not long enough. Thanks. I'll write again.

OK - I've figured out (sort of), the room layout. Now I am in the library corridor. Presuming I need to get to my cubicle. What do I do at the platform? As I am on it, and there is a microphone, what do I say?

Don't worry about it. It took me an absolute age to work that one out.

I've made some progress (260/500 points), so I presume that is half-way through the game.

I've been to all the rooms/codes given to me in the library.

I managed to work out the puzzle with the crate/barrel/box, which was tough.

Got the scissors and cut the hair.

Found the docket and got a screwdriver and the tube.

I completely missed the east room in the medical section.

This game has got me hooked, and I've done little else for the past two days (I am on holidays).

Right now I've just rubbed the bracelet and got a whirling sensation, but don't know yet where this will get me. What would a whirling sensation do?

I've exchanged some scrap metal, but the android just left. I think I need to find a whistle to call the robodog.

Have you done that? Can you let me know?

I've finally discovered the story behind the Deliverer games, but since it requires a lot of messing about with emulator options I'll save everyone the trouble and post the relevant images here.

Terri, back to your problem, if you have exchanged scrap with the android you should check your inventory, along with the balloon you should have received something else.

Thanks for all this information.

I am having a problem getting the horseshoe. I now have 420 points, but maybe the order is wrong.

OK I'll go back from the scrap thing.

I know what I need to give Rydla. I now have 440 points.

However, I still cannot get the balloon to inflate. Even if I drop everything but the balloon, the cylinder, and the magnet.

I'm going to need something very specific here. I am stuck.

How did you get the scissors if you cannot inflate the balloon? All you need to inflate the balloon is to carry the balloon and the cylinder, you can carry more if you want but this is not necessary, then INFLATE BALLOON. Once you have the scissors you can discard both the balloon and the cylinder.

As to getting the horseshoe, try waving the magnet.

Something useful that you may not have tried is to eat the spinach, not only do you receive points but your inventory limit increases from four to ten items.

I got the scissors by inflating the cylinder, no balloon needed.

I thought I couldn't get the horseshoe because it was too high up.

So, all I needed to do was to wave the magnet? I wonder why I hadn't tried that before? Another duh" moment.

Yes, I ate the spinach.

I'm done now. Shall you write up the solution, or me (for both of us)?

Thanks

That's obviously a bug, even when you don't have the balloon it still tells you that the balloon inflates and deflates. Thankfully this bug does not stop you completing the game, unlike in the sequel.

If you've started writing a solution then don't let me stop you :D
