Bah... The only IF I ever finished writing was time travel and adolescent humour - if only I could have a few words with my teenage self.darius wrote:Another suggestion for overutilized themes: Time Travel

Hey, folks
Don't berate yourselves. Yes, adolescent humour (thank heveans) wanes. But, the drive to produce, do something, make a mark, it is hoped continues. Look at Jacob as an example. He started early, and is still in the field.
Popular culture also influences the type of writing style and themes that are used. It's always been the case (as witnessed by the Toronto Globe and Mail's newspaper masthead which, I believes, tells us old folks to "chill out" and says something about the Romans' complaints about adolescence). As one gets older that is less of an issue, but it's the young that drive the direction. Look at the texting stuff, with the "short-cut" spelling. Eventually, in more mundane conversations, it is hoped that reversion to common spelling will occur. So we are not left completely out of the loop, and besides, eventually some conformity is necessary.
Maybe we should compare how how long we have all been involved in IF. And at what age we started. I am sure we would find some associations. Dorothy Millard is about my age. She both wrote and played lots of adventures. I wonder what she would say.
I hope she reads this site. If she doesn't respond, I'll write her for her opinions and comments.
