Elysian Fields
Moderator: Alastair
Fish can be found lying around east of the vineyard.
Rats can simply be gotten.
Thanks - got rid of the Hydra (didn't seem to need to visit the tar pits first). Haven't come across anything Excaliberish yet so Bull is still with me... Managed to get rid of the birds and Zeus but Giant and Warrior are still vexing me.
No use yet for the hat, shield, trident, book, tablet (which I just this minute found) or rotten pomegranate and haven't gotten the carrot, herbs or wand.

The giant requires a sharp weapon, not in the greatest of shape. Use a verb that one would use with such an object.
What does the warrior do to you if you just wait around? Turn about is fair play.
How did you dispatch Zeus?
I can't go east of the vineyard. I get a message that the proper disk is not inserted and I can't out of this message without rebooting the game once again.
A little later, I download the two separate disks (previously I had gotten the zipped version). Now I can go east of the vineyard, and no longer have the corrupted location west of the barren field. So it looks like the zipped version is corrupt.
So I will need to start all over again.

Sorry to hear you had to start over. Pure luck that I started playing using the 2 separate images.
Ah, I had dropped the dull object once I sacrificed the ram - have retrieved it and dispatched the Giant.
Zeus can be dealt with by using what you get after you deliver the girdle.
I don't know that I would have EVER done that to the warrior without your nudge!
Still looking for what I need for the bull. And the necklace. Also wondering if there is a way to extinguish the forest fire.
On the positive side, I just this minute got rid of that pesky boulder blocking the cave. Perhaps much will be revealed now (fingers crossed).

Haven't yet replayed in the "new" version. Glad that we were able to assist one another. That's what this forum is all about. I think that our third player is just lurking in the woods, and s/he will have the upshot in the end!
No matter.
I am getting ready to do it all again. Though I keep thinking that we shouldn't really go to find Cerebrus unless we have done everything we need to do "on the ground".
I am still having a problem about considering that this is an "educational" game for kids. Seems mighty tough to me.
I think it is a good idea to drop all objects one finds in a central location (i.e. tree stumps), if one does not know what to do with them and you have exceeded your carrying limit.
When one writes a solution, it should be the most expedient one, i.e. one that reaps the fruits of our blunderings, but does not repeat them.
We may need to collaborate on this as well.
Ain't life grand?
Yes, I am mellow.

I think I am caught up to where I was before.
Any hints about how to move the boulder?
What did you do at the tope of the mountain, past the dove?
What to do at the shades?
I'm wondering what to do with the magic hat and wand. These weren't part of the Greek Myths, were they? Thought I might try it with the rabbit, but that seems silly.
Do you think that the hint given when you drop the tablet means that we should not go to see Cerebrus until we've done everything else?

You were right all along about the object needed to move the boulder, the verb is just not what you might think of first.... well, actually, it is just what you might think of first for the object, just not it's use with the boulder.
Found nothing to do at the top of the mountain but I visited there pretty early on in the game so I need to go back again.
Haven't found a solution to the shades yet.
I can't believe the wand and hat didn't immediately make me think of the rabbit! I've been thinking I need the carrot which I haven't gotten because I have yet to find the necklace. Hmmm....
Yes, that is what I'm thinking the tablet means as well.

How did you dispatch the cyclops? I tried to call Zeus but that didn't work (even before I dispatched him).
The myths say that Odysseus killed him by getting him drunk and then putting out his eye. While we have lots of objects we can stab him with, none seem to work (haven't tried the knife).
I suppose we could put the herbs into some liquid to make a drink. While there is water, do you have a vessel to put it in? Maybe a hat? I'll try that.
Seems that we are stuck in the same place.
Have you found a way to see what is in your possession?

Once you get beyond the boulder you will find what you need to get rid of the Cyclops.
"I" displays inventory - of course it scrolls by too fast to read so I usually just hit ENTER again after it is done scrolling to go to text only mode so I can read what it says.
No vessel for water yet - I'd been thinking I needed water to douse the forest fire - hadn't even thought of using it with herbs to make a potion of some kind. Have you managed to get the herbs?
So, it seems I have: shield, book. thunderbolt, pomegranate, plant, and hat none of which I have found a use for - can't yet get carrot, herbs, wand, Pegasus - have sandals and have used them but not sure I did so in the right place because it didn't really seem to accomplish anything important - haven't even seen the necklace the Maiden wants nor the rope needed to catch Pegagus. Have you found other?

I tried getting the object where the Cyclops is, but I can't. He just laughs at me.
How did you get it?
I for inventory? Imagine. I tried the entire word, even shortened it to INVENT, but didn't think to use I.
Yes, I too have gone into text mode to see what is where (if they're all in one place).
I haven't retrieved the pomegranate from the tunnels, because I was afraid I could only go there once. Once you give the coin to Cerebrus, can you go back there? When you drop the tablet it hints at the use of the shield at the farthest east reaches of the Elysian Fields, which makes me think you really shouldn't go down there unless you can say what the rabbit has said.
When you try to move the boulder it says"memento mori" - remember the dead. Is that a hint about the shades?
Verbs appear to be limited. I open the cave, just by DROPing the trident.
You get the wand, as you know, by giving Hypnos the horse. Since you can't actually GET the horse, you have to throw something at it, then GET it. A lasso would be helpful. Move some rocks north of the ruins and use what you find.
Trade the plant you have to get the herbs.
The sandals do take you somewhere else once you wear them, but I don't know it this anything else other then get you from one place to another, any other (random), quickly.
Nice idea to douse the forest fire, though what does one carry the water in?
Have you found the sword yet? Dive it water to get it. You can use it on the bull to get past it.
The hints say to sacrifice the ram at the right location. I'm not sure I did so in the right location. I was in the gravel pit which put me in the tiunnels. Did you try it anywhere else?
Seems to me you should be able to do something at the vineyards, and also at the top of the mountain.
I can't seem to get up the mountain again. Can you tell me what you had with you and who you had already killed? Maybe you have to do things in order in this game.

Here are some additional hints (in addition to the ones Alastair found) - based on what you and I have figured out:
13. The hydra is bothering you? Burn it away.
14. Chimera on your tail? Give it a poisonous metallic element.
15. Can't get past the bull? Something found underwater will help.
16. How to get the girdle? Wear some soft armour.
17. The birds are bothering you? Throw something at them.
18. The harpy doesn't like what women say "eek" at.
19. Dispatch Zeus with what you get after you give the girdle away. Beware this may not be the correct thing to do.
20. Somewhere you will have got a description of the fish. They will kill a fellow water dweller.

Venture further into the cave to find what you need to dispatch the Cyclops.
I decided to start over because I sacrificed the ram and gave up the coin days ago.... I made a weak attempt to go back there again by using the knife to stab the ram again and I got the "are you sure you want to do that'" warning after which the ram vanished. At that point I freaked and restarted....although now I'm thinking that the only thing I did wrong was to not pick the ram up again before repeating the sacrifice....
So, having restarted I am now collecting every object I can find and dumping them all out our favorite stumps location before I venture forth to use them.

Oy, starting again? I sympathise. I don't really like doing that.
Yes, I tried killing the ram elsewhere, and got the same question. However, I did not think to pick it up again. Vanishing meant, to me, to be gone, and I didn't even look to see if it was there, or elsewhere.
OK I'll try your suggestion, and see how I progress.
Just to warn you - I did not kill Zeus by giving him the arrow (since I left this to the last, I walked around and could not find him again; besides getting rid of him didn't sit well with me). It appears there may be more than one way to finish this game.
You can give the arrow to the shades, and now you can pass them - though this does little good since you can reach the same location in another way).
Eating the pomegranate is the same as drink the Styx water - you die. Can't figure out another use for it.
I've found my way up the mountain, so you don't need to respond to that.
It's possible once you have the pomegranate (if that is even necessary), you can leave by wearing the sandals. Though since the Elysian fields are there, I think that is maybe where we are to end up. With no additional coin, I don't know how to return there.
If that is the case, that leaves knowing what to do up the mountain. It just occurred to me, that there is no necklace, so how else to get the rabbit to tell you "the words of wisdom"?
I'm finding it ever and ever more increasingly difficult to imagine an adolescent wrote this.

I am completely with you here:
Must confess - spent my limited free time watchining American Idol auditions this evening - will do better tomorrow.
Not sure what happened to my last post, I thought I had responded to the Olympus / memento mori / vineyard / etc questions... my bad.I'm finding it ever and ever more increasingly difficult to imagine an adolescent wrote this.

I'm sure American Idol was better than going around in circles in a game.
Just to let you know, I have written to a Mark Novembrino (found two people with that name) for some help.
I've walked around some more and tried to do some things at the tarpits. I believe we need to find a time door at the Elysian Fields, but apparently everything else needs to be done before that occurs and we haven't yet done them. There is also, as you mentioned, the forest fire. There is also the secret room, not to mention several other locations which sound intriguing, but we don't know what to do there.
Hope I got the correct person and he can give us some help.
