I'm playing Blade of Blackpoole and I've stuck (I know, it's not necessary to say).
A big boulder blocking my way to a cave or an underground tunnel has become my personal nightmare! After some days of useless attempts to get rid of the obstacle I tried to find a solution, so I visited this text-adventure-players' rescue-station and was very excited by finding a commented walkthrough here! Unfortunately it didn't help.. There is an easy advice: Go W (BOULDER WILL DISAPPEAR) so I tried many times to go through the boulder, but no success ( What can I be doing wrong? I tried both C64 and Atari versions to exclude the chance of an internal error, but the game behaves in the same way: You can't go there. Using HELP or HINT command brings me only this: You can't move it.. I know, but what to do then?

I recently replayed this game so that I could make a map for CASA. It worked for me. I PADDLE W then when I got to the spot where it mentioned the boulder I just typed W and the boulder disappeared from the picture and I was able to W to get in the cave. I played the Apple version on AppleWin.
OK I have located the game, but (not to mention that I am playing a BBC game right now), I can't recall how to start the process. Bear with me. I will again figure it out, but it is frustrating to keep forgetting.
This is pretty pathetic. Sorry. I have found the game. But I am unable to start it. I have downloaded the file into every conceivable appropriate location. While I can appreciate that you may not be able to help me with this probably rather simple problem, I can't believe I am such a dolt that I cannot do this.
Maybe I'll just go read a book. Turning pages is all about what I can do right now.
I have managed to load the game under a different emulator. I have explored some of the areas. I don't really know how to load a saved game (though I can save it).
Questions:
What to buy west of the tavern?
I appear to be able to throw the rope at the quicksand, but what then?
I fele so out of the loop, not just with this game, but with the entire process. Please help me feel better.
re: the area west of the Tavern - buy everything BUT the knife.
There are more than a few tempting items scattered around in this game that you dont need - resist the urge to pick them up until you are sure you need them. Inventory management can be a nightmare otherwise.
I can't figure out how to load a saved game either. I tried load, load game, restore, restore game, run, run game, etc. I finally resorted to doing a 'save state' and 'restore state' in the emulator itself.
Save the rope for a deeper need. As for the quicksand - think Michael Phelps....
Well, I am stuck in the same place Quido is/was originally stuck in. Can't seem to move past the boulder.
Maybe it has something to do with the version/platform on which one is playing?
Even though I have found a solution.
I have looked to find the Apple version you played and have not succeeded. I am sure I have AppleWin loaded somewhere, but, as I'm sure you've read my posts and realize if I have not done something within the last week, I remember nada.
Oh well. This frustration, too, shall pass, and I will be mellow once again.
Happy New Year to everyone. This one will be better? Yes, of course it will be. Optimism should reign, even if it is foolhardy to believe so.
So, Quido, maybe you should play the Apple version of the game?
At least Apple allows you to "save state" though it took a bit of time to figure this out.
It really begs the question why someone who knows little about these things, keeps trying. Never having played these games in their original forms, I suppose all this is easier, but... yes, if you search through all the drop-down menus you are given in AppleWin (regardless of version), you can figure out how to save a game.
But I suggest you name all your saves by the game title, otherwise you will be lost. I haven't figured it out how to save to the game file one created when beginning the game.

Same here. My only 8-bit computer was an Atari 800 so I am always at a total loss when it comes to emu'ing Apple, C64, Speccy, Amstrad, etc.
But ever so happy to discover the games for them that were not available for my Atari...
