You don't need the horse for this. Once you have the shoes and are wearing them, get to the rocky path. Then go NW, W, W. I'm not really sure whether you need the horse for this. But in my opinion, that is getting close to the end, so one needs to find more treasures before one goes there.

On the other hand, if you don't have the horse, that erodes your limit on the places you can go in the desert. I didn't have the horse, and it worked.

I am still hoping Alastair's brain can solve this game.

How did you manage it?

Without the horse go NW and N from the pool of water you create in the desert.

As for not using the horse in the desert, I assume there must be a reason for getting the horse and creating the pool, otherwise a number of problems are superfluous to solving the game. Perhaps after killing the bear you have to recross the desert.

A further puzzle, do either of you know what is meant when the game says, "that strange feeling of loneliness returns," the first time you visit the lush green prairie?

I got that message too. And no, I don't know what it means. Do you need a companion? The horse? Does that mean you need to find that object (which you need to find with the hints already given?) I can't find anyone to take with me.

I still believe that we need to find at least one of those objects before we even go there. Other than the horse shying I really don't know where there is something else.

Other than the rapids which is one area we have not gone into.

I am going to check north of the broken tree, as you suggested.

Other than that, I am stuck.

Terri,
it was north of the unhealthy tree.

Anyway, I agree that at least one more of the missing items is likely to be found before you need to cross the desert. There could be a way across the rapids, but I am also intrigued by the message that the second mountain lion bounds up the mountain clearing animals from its path - is there a way up the mountain?

Also, I've thought of a reason for why you may need the horse and the pool, what if you have to return to your own lands (south of the starting location) after returning the items?

Using Terri's hint of looking at the file with notepad I discovered the word "step," going to the water's edge I tried

> STEP OVER ROCKS

it worked! I checked further, you do have to scare the lion before proceeding this way.

A little later I finished it.

Hurray Alastair. Glad to know my faith is not misplaced 8)

OK - Doreen and I will soon catch up.

P.S. Actually Wordpad is better - easier to read.

Somehow I just knew I'd have to write one more time.

You have to wear all the objects. I have another verb problem - how to wear the last item. I thought the thongs would be helpful for this. The hint says "many uses". One of those verb noun to noun - one final hint please. I've tried INSERT, TIE, nada.

I'll write up the solution and some hints. How's this for the order, Alastair, Terri, Doreen?

Or should the order be different.

Would this be the object with a small hole in it? Try INSERT ____ IN ____

Any order you wish, though shouldn't the name of the one writing up the solution come first?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I tried Insert ...in... but the hint said "to what?"

In my opinion, the first author should be the one that contributes the most. Since Doreen and I were both stuck, and you found how to cross the rapids, I nominate you.

Writing it up - that's just a small thing. It makes me consider the most direct way, minimizing the retracing of steps, and just play it one more time to make sure I make no mistakes.

That's my sense of satisfaction (heh-heh).
