This is a BBC game. Looks interesting, but I am stuck.
What to do at the stranger past the reception room?
How to get over the electric fence? Pouring water gets you a pool of water, but them what?
Past the thieves (with the robot). How to get the tube?
Is the lady with the collection box a red herring?

I've only just started, so bear with me.
- To get across the fence, a bit of pole-vaulting is in order
- On the other hand, I haven't seen the thieves yet. Are they past the dog? If so, how do I get past it?
- Is there any point to the well? The game doesn't downright reject the word "larvae", so I've tried various commands.
- What about the small brown creature?
It would certainly be nice if the exits weren't so obscure throughout the game.

It's a while since I played (and finished) this game, so I'm tapping memory ducts to answer your questions.
The stranger in the reception room can be vanquished with an item bought in the shop.
Yes, there is a point to the well, but it relates to much further on in the game.
The small brown creature needs to be taken home to its mother (near the telephone box, as I recall).
The thieves can only be disabled with an item found later in the game.
Don't visit the lady in the charity shop until you've made contact with the rebels.
Also don't use your personal computer at all (unless you save beforehand) as its full powers are needed much later in the adventure.

I've made a bit more progress.
To get past the stranger you need to buy two objects. Exploring in that area you find a candle, which turns out is a stick of dynamite. Carry the bucket of water with you.
When I threw it at the dog, he retrieved it, brought it back to me, and I was blown up. But maybe just another sequence of verbs is needed?
Re: the small brown creatures. Bring the mom to the phone area (not the other way around), you'll get an object you can use, but the resulting hint, I don't know where to use it.
I don't know what to do with the egg, nor the robot, nor in other areas (Transporter room, cubicle room, partly built room) you find. Not to mention the rebels whom I have not yet met, the thieves, pipe.
I agree it's a bit tedious to have to check out all directions in every room.

Obviously I'm not doing too well on this one...
I have to admit having found neither water nor dynamite (where to look? - I've SEARCH'ed everywhere).
But I did find a use for the egg and have made my way through the corridors to the guard control room
(direction from Torture Room: S, E, NW, SE, E, N, SW, S, W, N, SW)
I presume that the word from the well is for the guards, in the guard control room?
And that the wire is supposed to short-circuit the electric chair (that's sort of what is hinted at when asking for HELP)

The water is in the well. FILL BUCKET works.
My, my. Everyone is stuck in a different place.
OK - did the thing with the egg, and followed your route (didn't have enough objects with me to map it.)
In the sentry room just before you are taken to the Torture room - there are some exits there - how does one get back there?
But other questions. Once in the Guard Control centre, then what? While the word from the well may help, I don't know how to use it.
The area with the wire - you reach it by WAITing in the partially built room with the robot, who is crushed in the process. You get the wire in this location, and the only way out appears to be through the Transporter room but you need instructions. The magazine won't help with this. The wire is probably for the hatch, unless there are keys somewhere.
Yes, the dog ate the sandwich (I finally got out of this area). What to do with the dustbin? I don't know how to get the robot to do anything except DROP which gets him to stay where he is, and TAKE which gets him to go with you. I haven't tried quotation marks? Does that help?
Still have not found a use for the tube. Nor have I found any rebels. Nor any musical instrument.

Duh. Stupid me. I was totally convinced that this was an old, disused well (the kind you climb down). If only EXAMINE had been implemented better. Strangely, in the torture room your head is submerged in water, and I tried every possible way of getting that water. Anyway, now I have the dynamite as well.terri wrote:The water is in the well. As for mapping the corridors... the maze is really quite simple. Whenever you go a direction other than the correct one, you just backtrack one room along your route. So I was able to re-use my four items over and over for doing the map. Map the first rooms, then retrieve the first two items and map two rooms more. And so on and so forth.
Oh, and I found the wire already - not sure if I should have used the robot more before he was destroyed? He opened the padlock for me, that's it.

I don't think you have to. There's only one exit (east), and that leads to the Guard's Control office, which is two locations north of the Torture room, anyway. I haven't found anything in any of those locations around the Torture room.
Now, how to get past that guard the second time...
Finally, I must have missed an obvious item: the sandwich. A gentle nudge as to where to look?
