Crystal Caverns
Has anyone around here played this adventure for the Commodore 64 and Apple II?

I'm a bit stuck.
What are you supposed to do with the hard disk? There's a generator for a computer down in the caves, but apparently no computer (there's a steel cage there, but it's not clear if it's covering the generator or the computer.)
What about the crowbar? I thought that it might be used to pry open that boarded door behind the mansion, but apparently that can't be done (at least not with any of the commands I used.)
What about the worn pickaxe and the rusted pliers? Couldn't find a use for them.

Ok, I don't have as much time for experimenting as I'd like to, so could you please get me started here?
I have explored the mansion and discovered where I'm supposed to place the treasures. I've tried jumping off the chasm edge with my parachute, only to get killed.
I've found a handful of items but there doesn't seem to be a lot to do. In particular, there's an awful lot of scenery but the EXAMINE command isn't very well implemented so it doesn't work very often.
Hence I'm getting tired of running around, digging everywhere and examining stuff that can't be examined. Oh, I noticed that there's something inside the globe, but apart from that, is there any other scenery that deserves my attention? Where should I continue my efforts?

I must have missed that one! Where did you find the parachute?
Have you found the caves yet? Read the descriptions carefully. There's one place where you can't avoid noticing a perfect place to dig.I've found a handful of items but there doesn't seem to be a lot to do. OK, got it, and I already found out where it's used. Jumping off of that cliff at the top does not work, as you know. But there's a place down in the caves where it does work.Gunness wrote:Really? It's just NE of your start location, so you can't miss itJuan wrote:I must have missed that one! Where did you find the parachute?
I have also found out what the rusted pliers are for. I had already used them but without my knowledge! The problem is that many times the game does not inform you that you have just managed to do something because you were carrying the right item.
This was one of my all time favorites. Lets see how good my memory is. I seem to recall using the crowbar in the quarry to move a boulder. As for the hard disk, I think there is a computer room at the end of a long or winding passage (which on my map was in the lower left hand corner..). Hope this helps.
There's a big boulder in the quarry that can be moved, but you do not need the crowbar for that. This is the same place where you find the pickaxe.Amby wrote:This was one of my all time favorites. Lets see how good my memory is. I seem to recall using the crowbar in the quarry to move a boulder.
There is a room at the end of one such passage that has a generator for a computer, but the description does not make it clear whether there is only a generator in the room or both the generator and the computer. There is a steel cage here as well, but, again, the description is just too vague to figure out whether it is covering the generator itself or the (unseen) computer. If you carry the compass into this room it goes berserk. As for the hard disk, I think there is a computer room at the end of a long or winding passage (which on my map was in the lower left hand corner..). OK, I have just found the computer room. It's in another room, not the one where the generator is. You need to unlock a steel door to get to it. I still have not figured out how to use the hard disk, though.Amby wrote: As for the hard disk, I think there is a computer room at the end of a long or winding passage (which on my map was in the lower left hand corner..). crystal caverns
Hi there,
Right I have just spent several hours on this C64 game.
I have managed to find and store 13 treasures.
I have not been able to unlock the steel door....?
I have not been able to do anything with the generator....?
Is there any way to to stop the lamp from dimming or to recharge it?
It seems the steel door is the next step any help Juan?

Re: crystal caverns
Same here. I wonder what that broken crystal goblet is for. I thought I might have 14 treasures, but if you take it to the place where you store the treasures and drop it, it does not give any points. So, as is, it does not count as a treasure.Doreen B wrote:Hi there,

It took me a while to figure this one out, even though it is very simple. There's only one key at this point in the game: the odd shaped key you use to unlock the gate. Try it.I have not been able to unlock the steel door....?

However, this "next step" leaves you quite stuck nonetheless. When you get the computer and hard disk to work, you will get a printout of a "maze map". It's a bit odd; it hardly looks like a "map". Maybe its meaning will become clear once the "maze" is actually found. The problem is just that: where is this maze located?
Neither have I. Before you enter the generator room, there is a passage that leads north, but it ends abruptly.I have not been able to do anything with the generator....?
That's a good question. I tried to see if that can of oil could be used to fuel the lamp but it did not work (I am not sure if it's an oil lamp or an electric lamp, though.) You might want to keep several saved games, particularly one at the point when you enter the caves for the first time. In case your explorations take too many turns you can always reload and start with the "fresh" lamp again. Is there any way to to stop the lamp from dimming or to recharge it?

Re: crystal caverns
For a moment there I felt really clever, as I thought the door puzzle was rather obvious. But since I'm only up to 11 treasures, I guess there's no point in braggingJuan wrote:It took me a while to figure this one out, even though it is very simple. However, I'm having problems with the right commands for the computer. I suppose that I'm supposed to open the disk drive cover, insert the hard disk, turn on the disk drive (unless it's a floppy drive?) and then hit the LOAD button at the computer. But I've tried INSERT, USE, PLACE, LOAD etc. - none of these work.
I find it somewhat disappointing that there seem to be so many treasures just lying there out in the open. Some of them could have been a part of a puzzle instead.
Once again I have to ask... there's very little of the scenery that can actually be manipulated or examined, right?
Oh, I am also running out of lamp juice, but I think that there ought to be enough, if we plan our treasure gathering a little.
