If anyone finds this game interesting, please let me know. You spend most of your time avoiding the Balrog which you can't kill unless you anticipate him. Points depend on the number of monsters you kill either with the sword or the staff. While there are some choice points. many are all basically unnecessary. The maze is where you rack up points. Once you see the writing on the wall, and get into the castle there really is no point to this game. No wit, no imagination, most of the objects are not needed, sometimes you run into obstacles, sometimes not.
Maybe the sequel is better???

Well, there's no denying that a nice big, fat share of the best titles are covered already. No more Infocom, Level 9, or Magnetic Fields. I think there are good games left out there, but it just requires more searching than a couple of years ago.Amby wrote:I hate to think that all the *good* games have already been solved and that all that remain are the games that can't be solved due to errors/bugs or unfathomable GTV.
I used to have a long list of games that I'd been struggling with for years and wanted solutions for, but that list was covered several years ago.
At any rate, Firienwood is a 1982 game and so is probably not the best example of the quality of the remaining games. Also, I know I've said this before, but the way I see it, there's no reason why we shouldn't have fun solving a game which already has a solution. Just ignore the solution. We won't have any less fun playing the game as long as none of us have never played it. Another option is to look at the Inform or TADS games. Again, solutions exist on the web, but just ignore them and we should have plenty of challenges. The selection of great games will be a lot bigger, too.
