Temple of terror going through the stone door at last

#1 Post by Alex » Mon Feb 24, 2020 11:53 pm

Today I decided I wanted to see the end of Temple of terror. I know the game is bugged and the stone door can't be opened using the 4 stones, but I managed to open the door looking at the program code and was able to enter the last room where you have to fight Malbordus. If anyone is interested I can make and upload a version where the stone door will be open and it will be possible to finish the game. The only difference is you won't need to collect the four stones as that puzzle will be omitted, but then again at least it will be possible to end the game.

Just noted the map I've uploaded has some minor errors (forgotten room descriptions). I'll fix them tomorrow.

Below file has been fixed to have an opened stone door.
Temple_of_Terror_c64_fixed.zip
(121.16 KiB) Downloaded 157 times
Alternatively enter the machine code monitor in the c64 emulator and change the following addresses:

047F FC
0480 5D
1636 FC
1637 5D

These remove the closed door from room 5D and replace it with the open door.

If anyone wants to give it a try. I have no idea how to finish the game. The manual says you have to destroy the 5 dragon s but I don't know how to do it. I tried to use the hammer, but no success.

Thanks to the hint from Csabo I was able to finish the game. Thanks :thumb: It seems I was one letter short, but now I finely saw the end of the game.

Great news! I actually re-played this game last year (after wading through the book first). Can't say I was impressed, but nevertheless, very nice to see the final boss at last, even if it's just through a screenshot :D

I also still enjoy to play one of those books sometimes. A new one will be released in October. I have already ordered my copy :D

I'm always a bit torn about these revivals. Eye of the Dragon, for example, was pretty awful, I thought. Blood of the Zombies was so-so… but then, I sometimes have the creeping feeling that I would have enjoyed them if they had come out when I was a kid ;) But it's the same with the old books anyway. Some I really still enjoy (Rebel Planet was quite a nice surprise last year), some are just too bland, too random.

Agreed, not all new releases are good. In addition, I found the old artwork much nicer than that of the new editions. But, as you say, not all old editions were good either. But when I'm on the train, I always like to read one. The new one is already the 10th edition since the original series ended. I did not expect so many new titles to be released.

How do you go about it these days? Do you actually roll a character, honestly calculate the fights, try your luck etc.?

no, I just try to solve the puzzles. Doing the actual fighting , starting over after dying would take to much of my time. But even without the fighting they are still enjoyable.

:) Mostly the same here. Unless there is a special mechanic, like in Zombies, then I want to get a feeling for how this works and I give it a try.

I also like to make maps of them, but it takes a lot of time and a lot of the maps I made are unfinished.
