Random game link failing

#1 Post by ahope1 » Thu May 09, 2019 12:00 am

Hi. The game "Greg Lemon/Soda - Bacardi Feeling!" appeared in the Random Game box on the CASA homepage, but the link doesn't work:
:(

(The URL works if you delete everything after the final slash.)

The game is listed with the title ---> Greg Lemon/Soda - Bacardi Feeling!
I would imagine the '/' in the game name is causing the issue as it's inaccessible even from the search page.

There is also a second game....
Greg Lemon/Hood - Ritter des Rechts
which also has a slash in its name

I replaced the slash with an underscore. This solved the problem.

Renamed it as MisGuided

Have you tried using a double slash (//)?

Yes. Doesn't work either. Anyway, I hope people will be able to find the game.

The slash is well encoded in the URI. Must be an issue in the rewrite module of Apache.

Out of 8,000 games we're talking about around five whose titles have had to be slightly adapted. I hope we'll manage :)

Sure, but a code workaround (replacing the slash in the URI with something harmless) would be a change of one line. So probably worth it?

If it doesn't take more effort than that, then certainly!

I'm making an assumption about the code here admittedly, but I can check in a week when I'll be back home.

I just discovered another game that is subject to the slash bug. It's XIV/2. I can now see the issue. The game name is listed correctly, but the link to the game includes the slash in the game name and that looks like it's a separator between folders, hence the html page is not found.

Why do you include the game name at all? I got around the issue by using https://solutionarchive.com/game/id,3656/

Search engines love it.

Good point, but if you're serious about that, you shouldn't use '+' as a separator between words. You should use '-'. And you shouldn't use underscores '_' as a separator in filenames for screen grabs, maps and solutions. Once again, you should use hyphens '-'.
