hi all
Recently joined the site so I thought I would say a quick hello.
I have been playing adventures since the early 80s, I started on a ZX81!! I have recently started back playing text adventures and I have a collection of a few thousand adventure games on various 8 bit systems. I have a C64, VIC20, zx 48k, zx 128k, atari 800, atari ST and an amiga that I play them on. Hoping to get a BBC and a Dragon to complete the systmes out when I was a kid that I always wanted. I use floppy emulators on most of them tape emulators on others, but I also play tapes when I can get them.
My aim is to complete all the games i have, but my collection grows all the time so probably not going to achieve it, but I will try. So thats me.
I have clicked all the games I have finished over the last week and will add them as I progress through them. If there are any games anyone would like me to play then let me know or if you need any hints for the ones I have completed.

Re: hi all
Hello and welcome, urbanghost! Nice to hear from someone who is so dedicated at playing (experiencing) games instead of just putting them on a shelf for collection purposes

I couldn't own a game and not play it. Games are for playing not for looking at and they deteriorate much quicker sitting around not being used.
Re: hi all
Nice to have a post in here that's not from a spammer. Welcome to the site.
My personal interest lies in homegrown 8-bit text adventures from the late 80s and early 90s from mail order companies such as Zenobi, The Guild, The Adventure Workshop, Compass, River and Tartan.
Always nice to hear from someone who is actually playing adventures... not just reminiscing about them.

I like all text adventures but my favourite are scifi themed. I also prefer the early homegrown adventures and can remember actually buying then in the 80s from magazines. The first adventure I ever played was Twin Kingdom Valleys. Didn't know anything about mapping and spent weeks just wandering around, I can remember the first time I actually saw the twin mountains in the game after aimlessly wandering around, made my day. Don't think I ever got to finish it at the time, but I will be playing it again soon so maybe this time!! It would have only taken me 38 years. Don't think I can wait that long again so I am determined this time. Haha.
Still play them old school, pen and book to map and keep notes. Makes a big difference when you know where you are.
I am playing Jhothamia 6 at the moment by Anthony Collins, he made some pretty good adventures. Played Nythyhel by him before this one and that was a great game.
I am also writing an adventure game while playing all these games. I am using Quest at the moment. The game is based on the film and TV series The Quatermass Conclusion, one of my favourite films, so will probably be looking for a few people to try it and let me know how bad it is!! I will update you when it is nearly ready.
Re: hi all
Well, technically Jhothamia 6 is not a Tony Collins game... as far as I'm aware he was only responsible for the C64 port. The game was actually by David Edgar... the CASA entry should probably have Tony's involvement mentioned in the notes section rather than as an author.
But, yes, Tony did do some great games. The Hermitage is great, Corya is very accessible, and I did enjoy his Nythyhel/Methyhel series... so much so, that I was, at one point, working with him on the next game in the Sinister Investigations series.
Good luck with your game.

Well I decided yesterday to switch from quest to inform for the game. There seems to be more games written with it so it should be accessible to more people. Bit of a nightmare moving the code today but think I've got the hang of it now.
Re: hi all
Inform is more portable... depending on the version you've chosen, you can even get your game running on 8-bit and 16-bit computers.urbanghost wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 8:11 pmWell I decided yesterday to switch from quest to inform for the game. There are lots of people still programming directly for 8-bits too, using "old" adventure systems such as the Quill, the PAW and DAAD.

Re: hi all
A bit late to the party, but a warm welcome from me as well
I'm not much of a collector, either - I'm afraid my shelf space is too limited (or at least fighting for space with movies and board games, and usually losing). Enjoy your stay here
