one dark night

#1 Post by terri » Mon Jan 31, 2005 12:16 am

I've explored around. I have the jar of worms, the horsehoe, the car jack, and a brass key. A mouse keeps running around me, which I cannot catch. (Maybe that it is running around in circles is a hint?). I've found the ladder leading to the trap door, but the bats kill me when I go up. I have found the other trap door, but cannot reach it.

Any hint about what to do next?

Hi

I would suggest that you leave the mouse for much later in the game.

The jar is your light for dark locations.

You will need to eat some garlic for the bats again much later in the game.

You can insert the jack into some bars to prise them open.

Get anne to help you push things if you can't do them.

'up quietly' will get you up the stairs - do not wear the armour.

pull rack where you got the horseshoe from.

Try lifting the statue on the lawn.

Anne will need to wear a coat for her to enter the 'damp forest maze'

Try that.

What words do you use to get Ann to help. Everything I try she ignores me or isn't listening.

The inputs for Anne to do things -

Anne go east and examine overcoat.

You can give Anne objects if you like - the command to get themback - Anne give me ....

Anne push barrel with me

Anne climb chain

Hope this helps

I have the rug, but I am sure that I have missed things along the way.

I've moved the coffin lid, but don't know what to do with the gaseous mask.

Anything to do at the fountain or stable?

And the bedrooms. Nothing I try works there.

Don't know what the armour is good for.

Can't get past the flying bottles in the cellar.

And at the jetty - can't seem to swim there.

have you:

climbed over some rocks
sit on some rocks and played the lyre
jumped into a stream
you need a broom to sweep the hay westwards. This prevents injury when the trapdoor is opened from above.

What stream? I just see mud.

I notice Ann won't go into the forest. Where is the overcoat?

What to do in the room with the holes from which a snake comes?

Does any of this make sense? I have no idea why I am doiong what I am doing.

From the car go east x 2 climb over (tree) e - then south to the clearing for the rocks. Sit on them jump them.

When in a tree jump west. then down to a grassy area. This should open an area for the stream the woodcutters hut the coat etc.

Have you examined a window for some directions.

It really is a complicated game it was some years since I played it.

The hedge maze is tricky you need to find a plant here.

You need to mend the cutters at the holes.

Two steps forward and stuck again.

I get into the stream, see the axe and the lynx but how to get out without being killed?

Have a saved game just before the stream and the lynx.

If he is there restore a saved game - then try again.

Yes, I saved before jumping into the stream. I didn't work. Sometimes he is there, and sometimes not. I keep trying to get the axe? Maybe I should get it on the way back? You know you can try 20 things, and it's the 21st that works.

Doreen, You mentioned that the grassy area opens up to other locations. I can't seem to access them after getting the axe. I can go back to pick up Ann, but don't I need to do something first in the cave, rocky place, etc.?

I've just started playing this game and untill now I only managed to get 25%.
I've made a map of all 142 locations but some of the connections are incomplete and I made a list of all the objects inside the game. The mayority of them I haven't found yet.

Looking at the hints above:
Doreen B wrote:You will need to eat some garlic for the bats again much later in the game.
I can't find any garlic

haven't found it yet
terri wrote:I've moved the coffin lid, but don't know what to do with the gaseous mask.
Haven't got a clue neither

Still have to solve this as well

I just started so I will keep trying.

ah, i see you're playing it here too.

we're simultaneously playing it at the WoS forum.

we are at around 40% of the game. and it was very hard to reach it.

you're going fast.

edit: ah, all the previous messages are from 2005, didn't notice it.

Well as there already did exist a topic for this game I decided just to continue with it.

I read the forum you mentioned and I’ve started playing again.
I finally managed to open the secret passageway inside the library (not the one from the smithy). I guess I need a rope to reach the ledge without being killed by the rats.
