Text Adventure Literacy Jam 2026

#1 Post by Garry »

Text Adventure Literacy Jam 2026 is now underway. Despite the name, this is a competition, not a game jam. This is the 6th year that the competition has been running and the aim is the same as always: "Write a text adventure that is suitable for beginners to this genre. The game must include an in-game tutorial."

For the last few years, the competition has had an optional theme. This year's theme is 'Archaeology'. This is a tried and true theme that is always popular. In fact, CASA currently lists 143 games tagged with this genre. There's also plenty of books, movies and TV shows that you can turn to for inspiration.

If you're an adventure author, dust off your coding skills and enter the competition. Submissions are open from 1 March to 30 April 2026, so you have 4 months to write your game.

If you're an adventure player (especially if you're a beginner), games can be played and rated from 1 to 31 May 2026. All games are free to play for the duration of the competition.

In last year's competition, every entrant won a prize. It would be nice if we could do that again this year, but to do that, we need prize donors. If you can donate something that would appeal to adventure authors, please do so. See the contact details on the competition's home page or send me a private message on CASA.

This is always a fun event, so join in to be part of it. We have a Discord server.
