New fighting fantasy book

#1 Post by Alex »

Nothing to do with text adventures, but I know some of you also play fighting fantasy gamebooks. Today I played the newest one called "The Dungeon on Blood Island". Not very difficult to solve (that is if you cheat the fighting :) ) but nevertheless I did like it. Only strange thing is that with the only solution I found you are unable to take the Vorpal sword.

Never heard of those books to say the truth. Did a quick search and I found them really interesting, I guess you can play alone (?). It reminds me of the Zork books, which you choose which path you want to follow, but this one is with maps, dice etc; more close to RPG.
You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around
you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully.

The Zork books are rater poor in my humble opinion. Fighting Fantasy was ultra successful in the past, but in its heyday, there were also a lot of duds published in the series. Many books are good, some great. But it is surely the most uneven gamebook series I know.

Apart from "Clash of the princes" they are all single player games. If you want to see an overview of the titles as well as being able to read all the back covers you can look on this site:

I have 108 titles only missing Allansia, the 4 Goldhawk titles and the solution booklet to Tasks of Tantalon. Not all titles are great, but the majority I enjoy playing.

Thanks for the info Alex, will definetely have a look. I've tried locally but to no avail so far (it seems they are not so popular here in my country).
