I'm stuck at the very end of this one, with a score of 320 out of 350.
I'm currently in the sewer, trying to climb up to the manhole cover. But apparently I'm too chubby to get out!
Anyone played this? It's actually a nice little game.

I went to the Stairway to Hell, and found the game, but it must be the wrong one, as it was an arcade game.

Hi,
this is the right one:
game

The parser isn't too bad, and there are some neat puzzles along the way. But mostly I think the writing is well above average, and the story is quite intriguing.

I'll post some hints for it later today. If there's anything else I can do to bring you up to speed, let me know!

Ok, I've placed some hints and a partial map on the main page now. I haven't had the time to draw the entire map yet, but I've done the larger part now (the London bit is still missing)

I was just looking for an old game to crack; are you still "working" on this one?

I think I'll give it try!

Faulty Towers, Sherlock Holmes - Another Bow,
Star Trek - First Contact,
Star Trek The Next Generation - The Transinium Challenge,
Island Adventure)

P.S.: Now you know who I am, right ;-)

Jeez, Chris, it's certainly been a long time. Thought you were lost for good ;) Good to have you back.

Yes, I'm still struggling with this one - any help will be appreciated! UPDATE: completed the map (up to the spot where I'm stuck, of course ;))

Hi again!

I solved it yesterday night! Since I had your excellent map, your hints and a wordlist I extracted from the disc image (I used to have more patience when I was younger ;-) ) it was not so difficult.

>> I'm stuck at the very end of this one, with a score of 320 out of 350.

You're absolutely right; only five more rooms to go.

>> I'm currently in the sewer, trying to climb up to the manhole cover. >> But apparently I'm too chubby to get out!

hints:
(1) check your inventory and think about your items

(2) since swimming didn't help, digging or any other sport
is not helping to lose weight

(3) here's the solution shifted one character to the left

Argh! I can't believe it! I tried every conceivable way of getting that damn raincoat off! Not that the puzzle makes much sense :)

Anyway, I'm grateful for your assistance - the game is finished and we're all on to bigger & better things. I'll make a post about this later today :D

I've finally managed to get at this game. It is well-written, isn't it.

I can't crack the computer. What is the code? Where is the codebook?

Close to the end now. Enjoyable game.

Yes, I thought the writing was really good, and it actually had something resembling a plot. Not something you find every day in an 80s adventure. The companion game, Xanadu, is more average, but still an enjoyable experience.

I've just posted up a new version of ascape - an interpreter and dumper for Adventurescape programming system (which Amnesia and Xanadu) are written in to the ifarchive (it's currently under unprocessed):
http://www.ifarchive.org/indexes/if-archiveXunprocessed.html

This can play most of the released ascape game (unfortunately most of these are pretty poor).

Well, it's a good thing then that we've solved both games already - just to prove that we did it without cheating ;)

Seriously, thanks for letting us know about the tool. Is there a list anywhere of the Adventurescape games? Personally I quite enjoyed both Amnesia and Xanadu, so if there are more titles out there like these two, I'd be happy.

The list I dug out is:

Working
2002: A Space Oddity
The Island
Jungle Quest
The Pobjoy Special
The Silicon Jungle
Live Aid Magical Mystery Tour
The Snow Queen
Anthrosin
Creepy Adventure
Lost in Xanadu
Murder at the Abbey
Dungeon Adventure
Amnesia!

Not Working
The Cube of Zoth
The Ultimate Prize
Pirate's Peril
Dreamtime
The Taroda Scheme
Stranded!
Rise in Crime

Most of the working list came from one disc. IIRC this was "A&B Computing Adventure Game disc". A lot of them are included with the archive containing the interpreter.
