New retro IF game award

#1 Post by Denk » Fri Jan 20, 2023 11:34 am

I thought this might be interesting to people who care about text adventures for retro machines/games:
https://intfiction.org/t/offical-announ ... 3/59813/13

If you want a game from 2022 to be eligible by the 1st of February you must put the game on to ifdb. If you don't have time, send me a message and I will forward information about the game to someone.
Thanks!

BTW: anyone with an ifdb account can vote.

I think this is really important. If you have published a game in 2022 or you know of a game that was published in 2022, then you should add it to the CASA database as well as the IFDB database. The new IFDB awards will allow that game to get recogniton in the broader IF community and to allow others to vote for that game. (If it's not on IFDB by 1 February 2023, then you can't vote for it.) You should also promote the awards everywhere you can.

I am not 100% sure, but I think the strict deadline was for deciding whether a category should be included or not. If there weren't enough PunyInform games, the poll for that one would not be included. I think that the organizer don't want to bother to check if a game was added before or after 1st of February to IFDB. But if the game isn't there from the start, then it might get overlooked and get less votes. People may even start playing now, as the categories already have been announced.

Just letting you know that you can go and vote now on IFDB for the new IFDB Awards. It is only for interactive fiction = text adventures + CYOAs and there are many categories such at "Oustanding Retro Game" etc.

You can vote and see the polls here: https://ifdb.org/news?item=124

The rules are here: https://ifdb.org/news?item=123
