Textfiles.com Apple II Walkthroughs

#1 Post by Alastair » Fri Nov 26, 2010 12:55 am

I am not sure of the site's policy in using solutions from other sites but there are a number of Apple II walkthroughs available at http://www.textfiles.com/apple/WALKTHROUGHS/ (including a solution by some fellow called Jacob Gunness - whovever he is ;) ).

One solution there that is not on the site is for "The Serpent's Star" http://solutionarchive.com/game/id,1870/

Haha - well, my solutions have ended up on all sorts of sites without my knowledge, so I guess we can just return the favour ;)

No, really.... the solution for TSS was already on CASA - it was part of the entry you submitted for deletion, so I transferred the solution to the correct entry.

But as a general matter of policy:
- Whenever I've been aware that a solution was taken from another site, I've given due credit at the bottom of the solution ("Taken from www....)
- If we're merely talking about a few of solutions/maps, I've just gone ahead and grabbed them.
- Anything more than that, I've always asked permission first, and it's never been an issue.

There are also quite a few at Dorothy Millard's site http://dorothyirene.fateback.com/Advent ... 20Main.htm

There are absolutely heaps of solutions on Dorothy's site. I have her permission to use them - I just haven't had the time to handle them yet. They're all in rtf format, which we're trying to avoid, so the files will have to be converted to text (or, if need be, pdf) first.

Yes, I knew you'd have been on the case!

I could batch download and convert them no problem. I could also zip them all up and upload somewhere but I'll never find the time go through them...

I already have them all downloaded. If you feel like doing some conversion, I'm sure we can work something out :)

It's just as well that I don't have the authority to delete entries, I failed to spot that one entry already had the solution. (Note to self, must be more observant in future.)

By the way, you do realise that the guy behind http://www.textfiles.com/ is also behind http://www.getlamp.com/ ?

Yes, I am - Jason appears to be a busy guy!
