Re: xanadu cottage

I'm stuck inside the cave. Seems the game is bugged. When you put a lot of objects into one location (at one point you have to) the game freezes because it can't display all the text at once. Or do you have to press some button I didn't find to scroll the text? I did make it to the other side of th...

Re: alien from outer space - BBC

Googling Incentive Software does not always list this game. (Not one of their best?) At the time "clue sheets" were available, but I have not found one on the 'net. It's not a surprise; the poor old BBC is often forgotten for games! IIRC the BBC port of GAC (which this was written in) was the last ...

Re: BEST text adventure maker to use to REMAKE a game....

Having has a quick looks at the C64 version (it was quicker to find). Most of the data is in two files: CC64 and DES1. DES1 looks to be the messages file (presumably to be read from disk, as the disk is larger than the C64's memory), with each message being in a block of 0x120 bytes, most of which c...

Re: BEST text adventure maker to use to REMAKE a game....

I'm always interested in getting old adventure systems working on modern machines (and have done work on GAC, The Quill, Adventurescape and BAPS). The CNCS was one of the ones on my list to look at when I have time (and the interest), I even got as far as downloading a version and having a quick mes...

Re: Forbidden Quest 1983

After your submission I was about to try it out on DOSBox, then discovered I'd already downloaded it at some point earlier, so I added a quick screenshot. The cards'll be useful. (I assume you're William Pryor, credited as an author on Moby Games?) As to what we host, we're going to have to wait for...

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro

Do you want to write the walkthrough or should I? I don't mind doing it; I just need to summon up the fortitude to play it through again (especially the bit around the swamp - carrying all those items one at a time got really tedious). I have most of a map drawn, I just need to finish off the final...

You're going to kick yourself: PUSH OFF

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro

Ah; you mean that river! I've just this minute finished the adventure, and you're only a few commands from finishing it. As you don't have a boat, you need something to make a raft, you may previously have used this to cover a pit. Once you have your raft, you need to jump on it and push off from th...

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro

But what appears to be the final obstacle (viz. escaping from the pyramid via the underground river) is proving pretty annoying to figure out. I either don't have the right object for the task or I have missed some command. Anyone around here played this before? I can help you get to this point. I'...

Wave boomerang.
That's a bit counter intuitive. Anyway I got a lot further; but need to update my map and do some more mapping before I can continue and it's late.

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro

That's got me further - I'd tried PRAY, but not worship - there is a bit of "find the verb in this game". So I'm stuck on two places: The snow field: I can wear the racquets as snowshoes, but it still won't let me go anywhere in the snow (I may need some glasses to block the sun light). At the end o...

Re: Egyptian Adventure - BBC Micro

Having had a quick go; I'm a bit stuck: I can get past the rocks and tie the rope to the ledge, but can't move around the snow field (snow, in Egypt). I also can't seem to interact with the characters, get a loan (I know the wording is OBTAIN LOAN), or make it back over the bridge without falling fo...

Re: Paul's 4k Adventure - coder's help needed (again)

Not that I understand one whit what you folks are referring to, I recall playing some games, where the outcome was the same if you "saved" just previous to starting that sequence, but with others it truly was random. Does it matter "when" the randomness is set to start? It really does depend on the...

Re: Paul's 4k Adventure - coder's help needed (again)

The C64 random seed is stored in memory locations $8b - $ 8f; so you can probably edit it directly from the VICE monitor - though this looks to be a standard BASIC float variable, which is a sod to convert to. I'll have a look at hacking the source code - I'll probably reduce the enemy's hit points ...
